About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Three days to fall in love. Six years to try to forget.

Ellie didn’t expect to fall in love while travelling in Europe. But she also didn’t expect to meet a man like Ash.

Three blistering days in Lisbon is all it takes to form an unforgettable connection – deep enough for them to plan to meet again in Madrid. But Ellie arrives late, and Ash is nowhere to be found.

Six years later, the memory of Ash and their time together still burns deeply in Ellie’s heart. She hopes that her dream job as a gardener on a grand estate in Wales will bring the fresh start she desperately needs.

But when Ash unexpectedly crashes back into her life, Ellie is forced to question if the universe has other plans...

Praise for
What if I Never Get Over You:

'A sweeping love story that is deep, complex and so, so riveting. I devoured this novel in one glorious gulp and still wanted more. Paige Toon’s ability to weave longing, hope, devastation and joy into one powerful, heart-tugging love story is nothing short of spectacular' Jill Santopolo

Gripping love story with emotional roller-coaster

Gripping love story with an emotional roller-coaster..

Yet another excellent book from Paige Toon! I was hooked from the very beginning and simply couldn’t put it down. The love story was beautiful — heartfelt and real — and I loved how the lives of the main characters intertwined so naturally. There were moments my heart absolutely broke for the couple, and I felt every high and low with them. The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. A truly captivating read xx

she's done it again 😭

An exhilarating journey filled with ups and downs from beginning to end! What truly stands out is how effortlessly Paige crafts connections with the characters, making their emotions resonate deeply.

Love Paige Toone but a little torn on this book… Narration style didn’t match the story in my opinion…

Other early readers on here seem to absolutely love “What If I Never Get Over You”. However, I was left somewhat disappointed. I love Paige Toone and I have read each of her books loyally since my late teens, I am now in my thirties. There are very few authors I can say that about. I find, though like anything in life, I have preference and this book wouldn’t be my favourite nor my least favourite of hers. For me it ranks in the middle. I think the concept was great and would make a great film. I struggled with the narration by Anna Acton, which some loved. She is well known for her work on the Calm App particularly on stories for children and fairytales and I think that was the problem that it was read a bit like a bedtime story for kids. She has a lovely clear voice but it didn’t fit such an emotionally charged story and it made Ellie sound like a much more mundane character than she was. She is conflicted and flawed as is Ash. I just felt this narration didn’t fit the story at all. I would wonder how I felt about this book if I had read it the old fashioned way. I probably didn’t connect with this story as much as I did with others of Paige as I felt the side characters were not particularly well fleshed out and I think it would have been a case of less is more… If you haven’t read Paige Toone before or you haven’t read her in a few years, I would highly recommend “Only Love Can Hurt Like This” which was published two years ago in 2023 and I loved. However, some people seem to like the narration, so give this a go but I just felt the storyline wasn’t as well paced as in many of her other books. However, as usual she nailed the sense of place and the heartache and drama between Ellie and Ash. Also, it is an interesting look at class in modern Britain.

Adore this love story

The only thing that would make this better - would be the same story from his perspective with a male narrator. For the full package. It’s beautiful. The only book I’ve ever gone back and listened to straight away!

Narration

Honestly such a let down. The narration and the accent of the main Welsh character is so cringeworthy I can’t listen to anymore

Ordinary story, poorly narrated

The lack of care and respect shown by the narrator / production team to deliver authentic Welsh accents and the correct pronunciation of Welsh place names ruined any ability to rescue the telling of a very ordinary and predictable story, Don't listen to this if you're Welsh!
