About this listen

He lived by the rules – until the only rule that mattered was survival.

Recovering from a gunshot wound that nearly cost him his life, Tom Douglas isn’t focused on himself – his concern is for his brother Jack, who seems to have vanished without a trace. Jack’s past is as dangerous as it is complicated. Years ago, he faked his own death to escape an organised crime group, and ever since, he’s been living in the shadows, always one step ahead of those who want to hunt him down.

Now, Tom’s worst fears are coming true. Has Jack’s past finally caught up with him? If so, what has become of his family? Tom has to find them, but the answers he seeks are hidden in a brutal underworld - one more dangerous than anything Tom has faced before.

As he delves into Jack’s secretive life, Tom is forced to confront ruthless enemies, putting his own life on the line. With time running out, he must decide how far he’s willing to go and how much he’s prepared to sacrifice, knowing it will mean crossing a line he swore he never would.

I love all the Tom Douglas mysteries, and am not sure what I'll do without him.

Hi this is a book I enjoyed although I thought it was a bit slow to get going

It keeps your interest

I am a devoted fan of Tom Douglas but this story was my least favourite by far. It felt far fetched, unbelievable and hard to resonate with. I almost stopped listening around halfway through but decided to keep going. Sadly it didn’t really get any better. Just my personal opinion though.

Not my favourite Rachel Abbott book

I always get a Rachel Abbott book AS SOON as it is released, and loved the Tom Douglas series, but not this one, boring, dragged out I would say I only finished because I do love Rachel Abbott as an author. One book out of so many is not bad though As the others to me are 5/5

Loved most of it but it did slightly push the boundaries of credibility but isn’t that what story telling is all about?

Tension and Venice- perfect

The DCI Tom Douglas books are fantastic. Waited a long time for this latest but very worth it. Great writing and wonderful narration.

Brilliant

I've thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of DCI Tom Douglas and his team until this book. The storyline is similar to previous books within the series (child kidnapping), but with a Mafia, Mission Impossible twist.
Tom chases through Venice with his not-so-in-hiding brother Jack, as they endeavour to save Jack's daughter, who an evil witch has kidnapped, while Tom's team tries to find his wife and family, who have gone missing.

It's a race against time, with Tom breaking far too many laws for such a high ranking policeman.

A book that makes you stretch your imagination a little too far.

Lisa Coleman's narration is fabulous, which probably saves the whole show!

3.5/5

Fantastic
I was so excited when I heard that there would be a new Tom Douglas book and it did not disappoint. Great to have the characters back. Really enjoyed this book.

Absolutely brilliant

This book was one that I’d really looked forward to. I’ve enjoyed all of the DCI Tom Douglas books and was excited that there was another. But the story just didn’t grip me. It felt a bit stale and took some time to get going. I’m guessing there won’t be any more now which is a shame.

Not The Best
