About this listen
One woman’s reappearance throws her family into turmoil, exposing dark secrets and the hidden, often devastating truth of family relationships.
Kate Bennett vanished from a parking lot eleven years ago, leaving behind her husband and young daughter. When she shows up at a Montana gas station, clutching an infant and screaming for help, investigators believe she may have been abducted by a cult.
Kate’s return flips her family’s world upside down—her husband is remarried, and her daughter barely remembers her. Kate herself doesn’t look or act like she did before.
While the family tries to help Kate reintegrate into society, they discover truths they’ve been hiding from each other about their own relationships. But they aren’t the only ones with secrets. As the family unravels what happened to Kate, a series of shocking revelations shows that Kate’s return is more sinister than any of them could have imagined.

I’d have like to hear more from the killer’s perspective. Or from Paige.
The audio was really bad. Ella was in a horrible situation, but the extremely whinny voice was a bit much
Story: could have been more. Narration: big no

I love the plane, no-nonsense prose used by the author, the avoidance of flowery , dramatic metaphors and I’m place every day language and the use of the first person really puts you in the place of which ever character is narrating at the time.
The story is both gripping and chilling It keeps you engaged right up until the end however, I’m only able to give this four stars because the ending felt entirely rushed and although enjoyable, nevertheless predictable and left me feeling somewhat empty.
The book built up for 7 1/2 hours, then all of a sudden in a rush, 20 minutes, it was over. I had so many questions left unanswered, and at the very least, even a brief epilogue could’ve helped fill in some of the open gaps at the end. This was a shame because I love the narration and the tenet of the story. I just felt a little bit cheated at the end, I was neither shocked nor surprised and it felt as though there could’ve been more as I was left, feeling unsatisfied, despite having enjoyed the rest of the book. I do however love Lucinda Berry’s style of writing. I will be definitely reading more of her books and recommend this is a great place to start.
Gripping “page” turner
