Summary

In this abridged audiobook version of his best-selling title, Paul Dix talks you through the book’s hugely influential behavior management approach - an approach whereby expectations and boundaries are exemplified by people, not by a thousand rules that nobody can recall. The testing, watch out for and nuggets sections have been removed for this audiobook, but the indispensable advice on how to involve all staff in developing a whole school ethos built on kindness, empathy, and understanding remains. Suitable for teachers and school leaders - in any setting - who are looking to upgrade their approach to school behavior.

Contents include:

  1. Visible consistency, visible kindness
  2. The counterintuitive classroom
  3. Deliberate botheredness
  4. Certainty in adult behaviour
  5. Keystone classroom routines
  6. Universal microscripts: flipping the script
  7. Punishment addiction, humiliation hangover
  8. Restore, redraw, repair
  9. Some children follow rules, some follow people
  10. Your behaviour policy sucks!
  11. The 30 day magic

Really makes you think.

It gives clear self-reflections moments about how you behave in your own classroom. I found this quite inspiring and I will be having a go at the 30 day change.

Excellent behaviour tool!

My school is following Pivotal behaviour scheme. This has helped consolidate my understanding and reinforced the teaching I need to be showing my students and staff.

Pastoral Leaders "Bible"

Absolutely loved it. Great content and delivered at excellent quality. The reader, author, knows his stuff and it is great to hear that Paul is so passionate about the subject.

There are plenty of good examples, along with lots of good guidance and practical advice.

I have given the printed book to Housemasters to read over the summer. Any change must start with adults and this book and Paul's experience confirms that!

Excellent ideas and good advice to improve teaching

This book helps teachers to look honestly at their practice and to identify areas of their behaviour which impact most on pupil behaviour and learning.

I have now read this text over three times in print and the audible version helps further cement the practical approaches I can take to improve my teaching with calmness and a patient, holistic, whole-child perspective.

It is a refreshing and accessible text, based on practical experience and with helpful, apposite anecdotes. Paul Dix been a helpful and influential voice in helping to refine my classroom practice.

Breathtakingly refreshing yet simple.

Paul Dix brings such a great mixture of theory and practical advice that has been trialled and tested. He brings great intuition and wisdom that should have every school ripping up their behaviour policy and greeting each student with a smile! I loved this book from cover to cover and have brought the physical copy as well so I can jot and highlight all of its pearls of wisdom.

Great ideas

As well as good ideas to implement in the classroom the reading gave stories of when they’ve been used in every day classrooms. That and a school focused approach by all (adults mindsets) is when students really benefit
