For the first time ever, Melanie C, aka Sporty Spice, tells her amazing life story in her own words and gives a full and honest account of what life was really like in The Spice Girls.

I never told my story before because I wasn't ready. Now, finally, I am.

25 years ago, The Spice Girls, a girlband that began after answering an advert in the paper, released our first single. 'Wannabe' became a hit and from that moment, my life changed for ever.

I was suddenly part of one of the biggest music groups in history, releasing hit after hit, performing to our wonderful fans and spreading the message of Girl Power to the world. It was everything I'd dreamed of growing up, and I've had some incredible times... The BRITs! The movie! Travelling the world playing iconic venues like Madison Square Garden, The O2, Wembley Stadium and The London 2012 Olympics!!!

When you're a woman, though, that power can be easily taken away by those around you, whether by pressure, exhaustion, shaming, bullying or a constant feeling like you aren't enough. I have been known as Sporty Spice, Mel C, Melanie C or just plain old Melanie Chisholm, but what you will read within the pages of this book is who I truly am, and how I found peace with that after all these years.

I have really enjoyed reminiscing and getting everything down on the page, and, though revisiting some of my darkest times was hard, I hope this book can be inspiring and empowering as well as entertaining and give you a bit of a laugh.

A Great Read

I am not a Spice Girls fan, but I am a fan of Melanie Chisholm, despite her being a red ("boo, hiss"). I was interested in the Spice Girls' story and felt Melanie would tell me what I needed to know truthfully, factually, rationally, proportionately. I felt that she fulfilled that requirement for me. Her personal story is not full of giggles, but represents the struggle behind the success and some very dark passages. I really enjoyed this book. I am still a fan of "Mel C".

A fascinating and inspiring story

As a 56 year old male, I am not a big fan of the Spice Girls or Melanie’s music but after watching her on Diaries of a CEO, I just had to give this a listen.

I found the story of how Spice Girls came to be so successful, absolutely fascinating. It gave me a new found respect for Melanie and the girls and demonstrated what can be achieved through hard work, determination and above all a true belief in your own abilities and purpose.

Intertwined with the story was Melanie’s personal journey and struggles that I found so relatable and inspiring. It reminds me that I am not alone and that we are all on this journey together. Thank you Melanie for sharing your story.

An insight and honest story

This highlights the highs and lows of fame. The pressure of what a women should be expected to be and do. Written with honesty and passion.
Great listen allowing you also to reminisce if you grew up “back in the day”. Spice Girls really set the steps ready for girl power to grow! Amazing Mel C, thank you for telling your side.

Who I am … She is Fabulous!

I have always loved Sporty, right from the first backflip of Wannabe in 1996!
Over 25yrs later, I have seen the Spice Girls live twice ✌🏼 and I still love her!
So wonderful to hear her story, in her words, from her mouth. Beautifully narrated.
So much backstage gossip, but also so much we didn’t see as kids. Hard to think how much we all idolised Mel C now knowing how much pressure she put on herself to be THAT person for us all. The pressure of entertaining!
But so glad that she is happy and healthy now. What a fabulous life she’s had so far … long may her successes continue!! Great book 👏🏼
