Excellent!
This is a must-read (or must-listen-to) book for anyone with an interest in politics and political television. Watch every election night into the small hours? This is for you. Love the leaders' debates? This is for you. Can't take your eyes off Neil vs Johnson? For you. And there's even an occasional answer to the nagging question - "What are they saying to each other when the closing credits are rolling?". Fascinating insight, with real information and generous dollops of humour and gossip!

Quality story teller about diminishing honesty of politicians
If you think it matters that politicians repeatedly lie these days then you should care about what has happened to the political discourse, we all should. Rob Burley makes a super valuable contribution at a time when our democracy is undermined by our own hopelessly inadequate politicians. They think they can take the public for fools and the think they can get away with it. There’s nothing party political about his message, and as a bonus, he reads the audiobook himself, which makes it more even more compelling.

Enlightening and enjoyable!
It’s great to hear Rob Burley’s unique behind the scenes perspective on the awful state of political accountability in the UK. Good storytelling with plenty of humour that every UK voter should hear!

The memories!
A must listen for anyone who has an interest in politics and its reporting. I can just remember Thatcher coming into power. This book brings back vivid memories of the excellent journalists who held politicians to account… and reminds us of the spineless lying cowards who can’t face scrutiny.
A well written and well read piece.

Honesty in a world of political lies
I enjoyed being accompanied for several hours by Rob Burley on my car journeys and being taken through the trials and tribulations of working with all types of political players, from the masters to the muppets.

A brilliant, insightful and intelligent ready. Absolutely entertaining, do read it
A must read / listen book about the behind the scenes of long form politicoal interviews. And importantly, the notion of telling the truth and accepting to be challenged when you don’t. This is a great reading. Truly insightful. Hope Rob will write more books.

Very interesting listen.
Interesting delivery of what could have been a very dry subject. Some of it felt a little disingenuous - ‘ we re only here to reveal the truth ‘ but, on the whole, it chimed with my view of the political arena over the last few years (so perhaps I was bound to like it!) and of the dilemma for a public broadcaster whose job is to challenge the hand that feeds it.

A book political nerds will love.
Analytical but with no little humour, this is an excellent run through 50 years of tv politics. Highly recommend
