Summary

The passionate and tragic story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff is one of the high points of 19th-century Romantic literature. In the relationship of Cathy and Heathcliff, and in the wild, bleak Yorkshire Moors of its setting, Wuthering Heights creates a world of its own, conceived with a disregard for convention and an instinct for poetry and the darkest depths of the human soul in torment.

Wonderfully narrated classic

A powerful story told brilliantly. Patricia Routledge does supremely well and brings so much colour into the narration.

This was just "superb" no other word for it.

The author Patricia read this must read / hear novel in a manner and intonation which literally brought it to life. I would say that the experience was truly gripping and told with unbelievable skill. If listening to it was an examination on the delivery, I would literally mark it 100% as I cannot find a fault anywhere. I also loved the Yorkshire accent of the character Joseph!

Ageless storytelling

This is always a wonderful read or listen. Patrica Routledge brought real life to the characters. I did find some of the traditional Yorkshire words were not pronounced correctly (I am from Yorkshire so forgive my pickiness). But I would recommend this book as a good listen.

Not what I was expecting.

A lot more to the plot than I thought from watching various adaptations in tv. Narration was excellent brought it to life.

This book.... !

I'm 50 years old and reading this book for the first time. If you have a young reader in your life, buy them this book. Its an emotional rollercoaster for teenage hearts. I loved it! I liked it better than Jayne Eyre. The characters are superb and will stay with me for years to come. Thank you, Emily. x

Great story and brilliant performance!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I'm trying to work my way through the classics and this stands out as one of the best albeit bleakest stories I've read/listened to. Now to try and find another I'll enjoy as much...

Highly recommended

Patricia Routledge’s narration is superb. The story is tragic. Charlotte Bronte has made her name with this classic.

Withering Heights

This is one of my favourite books, Patricia Routledge managed the Yorkshire dialect very well in my opinion (although I’m a southerner!) She read with passion and feeling and represented each character distinctively. I really enjoyed listening to her. I will listen to this book again before too long, the language of this era is so rich, our modern speech had lost so much.
