About this listen

The passionate and tragic story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff is one of the high points of 19th-century Romantic literature. In the relationship of Cathy and Heathcliff, and in the wild, bleak Yorkshire Moors of its setting, Wuthering Heights creates a world of its own, conceived with a disregard for convention and an instinct for poetry and the darkest depths of the human soul in torment.

Patricia Routledge triumphs

Any additional comments?

A tour de force by Patricia Routledge making the melodrama of the book totally convincing and gripping. I have never enjoyed this book so much and wish I could thank Ms Routledge personally. An extremely talented actress and an outstandingly intelligent and sensitive performance.

Masterful

Fabulous. Really enjoyed this engaging performance. Skill fully read bringing characters to life with some humour, much needed with the dark storyline. Well done!

really enjoyed revisiting this old favourite.

So lovely to revisit this old favourite. Even better to have it read to me. A tad frightening at times with the voice of Jospeh but a wonderful journey none the less.

A bleak but great story!

Great narration. The characters are really brought to life! A very bleak story till the end, of revenge, love and loss.

Superb

Everything about this production was superb. I have never heard another reading of this great novel as beautiful as that given by Patricia Routledge. I was there in the story with all the characters and I cannot recommend this audible tape highly enough. If you have ever struggled with Wuthering Heights this is the version for you and if you already loved it you will discover something new. Superb

Stunning and moving story of class and passion

I listened to this with my sister on holiday. What a dark, but beautiful story. Added to by the narration by Patricia Routledge. Her voices and her accents made for a magical total absorption into the tale of love and passion and violence and cruelty.
To think the author was just a young woman from a religious background in a sheltered village in Yorkshire makes one amazed at her understanding of such complex relationships. Brilliant in so many ways.
