About this listen
Would you give your first love a second chance?
Justine Thomas and Maddie Kind met at university and were the couple most likely. Everybody said so. That is, until Maddie left without saying goodbye.
Ten years later the pair are reunited at a friend’s funeral, and now Justine can’t shake Maddie from her life. But why is she back? Why did she disappear? And more importantly, is she interested in the whole cake, or just one last slice of Justine?
Strap in for a novel that deals with life’s big topics: Love, death, and cake. Clare Lydon is the queen of British romantic comedy, and this stellar lesbian romance is guaranteed to give you all the feels.
Quite simply, it's unputdownable.

2nd chance
bereavement trigger.
I've been putting this off after losing my best friend last month, but the writing is full of warmth and respect and narration is delivered with an empathy.
it's also a great romance, for people do change with age, most become wiser.
really made me feel , not better, but centered on those closest.

Romcom with the dark balanced with the light
Great, gripping story, with absolutely top narration! Loved every minute of this occasionally serious romcom.

Not great & not funny.
Story is not great and full of very lame jokes. The plot is compromised by very lazy research and clichés which mean it barely hangs together. The writing is very poor with all the usual Lydon repetition, padding and dreadful grammatical mistakes, which nobody who calls themselves a writer should make. For a 'successful' writer Lydon is one of the laziest I have come across; one gets the feeling she is churning out books for the money, regardless of the quality. This makes her work very irritating and I will not be buying any more of her books/audioboks.
The narrator confuses the story by reading the main characters with middle class English accents which do not reflect things the characters think and say. And, for goodness sake, if you are producing a story set in the South West of England then use an actress who can speak with the local accent! As for Vincent's Irish accent - well, I don't dare go there...
