Ruth Ware and Imogen Church are a match made in heaven. Exciting and unusual storyline perfectly narrated. Bring in the next one!

Excellent story and narration

I’m a big fan of the author and have got pretty much all her library.
This however I wish I hadn’t bothered with. I’m not sure where this sits chronologically in her canon, but it suffered from an unusual (for her) severe lack of pace and tension.
In main I think that was due to the most repetitive narrative I’ve ever read. More padding than DFS, and interminably descriptive prose that just dragged, and dragged…….and then dragged a bit more.
It read like a book where the author came up with a premise but then got bored with it, so just cobbled together the 12/15 relevant scenes and then just found ways to up the word count enough to call it a novel.
Give it a miss.

Not one of her best

I found the first part a bit tedious. Obviously trying to set the scene of the relationship between the main character and her husband, but I felt it was very cringe worthy at times and it really put me off. The narration was at times very over the top too.
As the story got going it was listenable, the ending was ok but I generally didn’t enjoy the book.

Not terrible but not great

Not RW’s best, in my opinion. A bit predictable in some ways, explain-stuff-the-reader-might-not-know-out-loud trope fully intake for the code/hacking stuff, and I didn’t enjoy all the male characters having the same dumb-down “London” accent.
The surprise to me was the number of Americanisms that were in there almost incidentally (cop, nightstand); for a story apparently set in the UK, they felt jarring, and whilst that’s a small thing, it’s the small things that really affect how smoothly the story flows.
This one didn’t really flow, Act III just sort of collapsed.

Americanisms everywhere

Roller coaster ride from start to finish ! I was hooked. Ruth Ware is a brilliant author, she brings the atmosphere to life in all her books. Great storyline, great characters just a great novel. Yet again much praise for Imogen Church - an amazing narrator of Ruth Ware novels

Thoroughly enjoyed this book

Love all Ruth Wares books, and this was no exception.. my only criticism being that Jac swore too much, I’m not a prude but found it to be a bit cringy at times!

Another great story!

Apart from one of her short stories I listened to all of Ruth Ware’s books. This one is my second time and I will listen to all the other books a second time as my bed time stories. Heads up to Imogen Church as narrator who brings the stories to life.

Engaging and Brilliant
