تتناول القصة، التي تناسب أطفالنا من عُمر أربعةِ أعوام، فكرة تقبل الآخر والاختلاف؛ إذ يشعر الظلام بالحزن، لأن الناس يخافون منه ويصفونه بالوحش المجهول، مما يشعره بالوحدة. وذات يومٍ يصادف طفلًا مختلفًا، لا يخافه ولا يهرب منه، بل يخبره أن له فوائد عديدة ومهمة، لا يمكننا الإحساس بها في النور: كراحة أجسادنا بالنوم ليلًا، وتنفس النباتات وانتعاشها وظهور الحيوانات الليلية لتبحث عن رزقها مساءً، والتمكن من رؤية النجوم بوضوح، ويخبره أنه نعمة من الله واجب شكره عليها.
