Die ›Geheimwissenschaft‹ von 1910 stellt einen zusammenfassenden Abschluss der theosophischen Phase im Denken Rudolf Steiners dar. Steiners bereits in der ›Theosophie‹ von 1904 formuliertes esoterisches Menschenbild erfährt hier eine erneute und vertiefte Darstellung, indem es eingebettet wird in eine spirituelle Kosmogonie und Anthropogenie, die an theosophische Vorbilder bei Böhme und Blavatsky ebenso anknüpft wie an philosophische Weltentstehungsmodelle von Platon bis Schelling.

In diesen frühesten Veröffentlichungen des Begründers der Anthroposophie wird der Versuch unternommen, aus den naturwissenschaftlichen Schriften Goethes diejenigen epistemologischen und wissenschaftstheoretischen Prinzipien herauszuarbeiten, die den Goethe'schen Arbeiten auf diesem Feld unausgesprochen zugrunde liegen. The anthroposophy of Rudolf Steiner is not a theoretical system, but the results of research based on direct observation. As Steiner's research was so vast and conducted over such a long period of time, no single book can be said to contain the whole of his spiritual teaching. However, of all his books on occult science, also known as esoteric science, come closest. Steiner even referred to it as 'an epitome of anthroposophical spiritual science'.

Originally published in 1894, Rudolf Steiner's Die Philosophie der Freiheit was considered by Steiner to be his most enduring work above all others. This is the first English translation, which was done in 1916. Two years later, in 1918, he revised it to be more in line with The Theosophical Society's philosophy. In many ways, this edition is truer to his spirit then all other translations, including some of the modern ones.

During the fall and winter of 1901–02, Steiner gave a series of lectures called “Christianity as Mystical Fact” to members of the Theosophical Society. The lectures were rewritten and issued as a book later that year. They mark a watershed in the development of Western esotericism.

Only he who understands life will be able to take his lessons from life itself. He will draw up no capricious schemes, for he knows that no other fundamental laws of life will prevail in the future than such as prevail in the present. Theosophy will therefore of necessity have respect for the existing state of things. Even, should it still find in what is existent, very much that might be improved, yet it will not fail to perceive in the present the germs of the future. But it knows, too, that for all things nascent there is a growth and a development.

And then, those who come after him will look upon his work as we now look upon the mineral world which came forth from the hands of the Gods.

The object of these lectures is to place before you an idea of the Christ-Event in so far as it is connected with the historical appearance of the Christ in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. So many questions of the spiritual life are bound up with this subject that the choice of it will enable us to make a wide survey of the realm of Spiritual Science and its mission, and to discuss the significance of the Anthroposophical Movement for the spiritual life of the present time.

All listeners, atheist, agnostic or theist, will discover much of interest in Steiner's brilliant prose. The influence of Mystery Wisdom on thinkers such as Plato, Heraclitus, and Pythagoras is brought to life as Steiner explains how the initiate of the Mystery temples, such as those at Eleusis, ten miles from Athens, learnt to differentiate between mere knowledge and a wisdom that went beyond the transitory, phenomenal world of appearance to noumenal reality.

In Mystics of the Renaissance, Rudolf Steiner examines the thought of 11 European mystics (Eckhart, Tauler, Suso, Ruysbroek, Nicholas of Cusa, Agrippa von Nettesheim, Paracelsus, Weigel, Boehme, Giordano Bruno, and Angelus Silesius) through a collection of essays and explains their ideas and how they relate to modern Concepts.

Of all of his works, The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity is the one that Steiner himself believed would have the longest life, and the greatest spiritual and cultural consequences. It was written as a phenomenological account of the results of observing the human soul, according to the methods of natural science.
