About this listen

In A Fatal Winter, Max Tudor - Anglican priest, former MI5 agent, and village heartthrob - investigates two deaths at Chedrow Castle. But his growing attraction to Awena Owen complicates his case, as does the recent arrival at Chedrow Castle of a raucous group of long-lost, greedy relatives, any one of whom has a motive for murder. With a cozy setting, intricate puzzles, and a handsome (non-celibate) priest doing the sleuthing, the books in this series are destined to become instant classics in the mystery world.

Cosy crime for rounding off tough day

Having read loads of reviews for this cozy crime offering, the majority of which were overwhelmingly positive, I started with great enthusiasm but by chapter 7 had lost the will to live. Background information is, of course, necessary but boy, does it go on and on. By the end I was shouting For God's sake get on with it. And...... why does the narrator say the main character's name every sentence. Does he think we are incapable of remembering who is talking? So disappointed in this that I will be hunting elsewhere for my cozy crime book. Hopefully one which actually gets on with the crime and solution!

On, on and on never ending prattle

I fell in love with Max and his sleuthing from the first book. A beautiful dream of what the church could and indeed should be while the actual adventure is stunning. Also the side story is a thing of beauty and I am in love with the characters. Please do listen to these books in order as the arch is so beautifully written it would be sad to jump into it half way through.
The narrator is wonderful, I cannot fault his performance, and even the intro music sets the scene for this book.
All in all I can't fault this book or indeed the series.

Disappointed by this audiobook... I was hoping for another range of stories to listen to while painting...alas this was not to be. I won’t be purchasing the set. The main character is just too dull, the story could have been told in 4 hours and not 9!!

Laborious.... plodding......

Although several murders take place it remains a gentle story with eccentric characters on every page. Every church should have a vicar like the hero of this book.

A gentle murder!

Couldn't really get engrossed. Good narration but story I found monotonous and characters not believable.

Kept me gripped all the way through. It is really good to listen to a voice.

Too many errors to be English, in the text and the readers pronunciation. I love Agatha Christie, Agatha Raisin, Father Brown etc..this does not come close.

Not authentic enough to be English

First time I have to write that a book is rubbish. The references are as in post war Agatha Christie but it’s set in current time

Dreadful
