About this listen
1957. Lord James Harrington and his wife, Beth, run a country hotel in the village of Cavendish, deep in the heart of West Sussex. James and Beth are discussing the latest Cavendish Players production, The Devil Incarnate, when their cleaner informs them that farmer Alec Grimes is missing.
When James finds Grimes dead, he is certain of foul play. But the doctor says he died of natural causes, and even good friend Detective Chief Inspector George Lane dismisses his suspicions. So James decides to put his own sleuthing skills to the test....

A great read
I'm new to this author and series of books. Greatly enjoyed the characters and the twisting plot. An enjoyable step back in time to the pleasures of rural life with the added intrigue of ancient treasure and murderous attacks. I will be buying the rest of the series now and consuming avidly Highly recommended if you like the village/country house cosy murder genre

Enjoyable
Another good story from Lynn Florkiewicz read well by David Thorpe. Set in the fifties, these books really evoke the period, the fashion, cars etc. There's no sex or violence, but a feeling of meeting old friends whilst solving a mystery.

Murder mystery
A murder mystery umbrella and covering music icons and menus from the period. Full of interesting nncharacters all brilliantly and distinctly narrated. Recommend.

Found the characters a bit stupid
The author is clearly keen on (dull) food. The characters eat all the time and do no exercise the should all be exceedingly fat! I found the 'dectective' slow on the uptake and the storyline clunky. Characters were very sterotyped. Just a slow and unexciting plot unfortunately.

First Harrington disappointment.
I love this series and couldn't wait to download this one. But, I'm not a huge fan of occultish trends in stories.
The characters are excellent in these stories - very believable, and 'of the period'. I'm not too sure how much Halloween was celebrated at that time, to be honest. Children certainly went round collecting for Nov 5th, but I felt Halloween re-gained its more ancient popularity in the nineties. Certainly, growing up in the fifties, it wasn't mentioned at all in the villages in and around my home.

Woeful
Cliched, full of excruciating stereotypes. Have listened to 2 hours but will not see it through to the end. Will not continue with the series.
