About this listen

Death arrives on the morning tide.

Soon after the cargo liner Alexandra Rose steams into the Mersey Estuary, one of the ship’s passengers is found dead, leading to Detective Inspector Andy Ross’s most baffling case to date.

Another death soon follows, and Ross discovers that the case has its roots in the depths of the Amazon Rainforest. A billionaire entrepreneur, mysterious passengers, a team of researchers, and a band of vicious mercenaries all have their part to play.

Ross and his team from the Merseyside Police Specialist Murder Investigation team will need all their skills to solve the case of the Mersey Mariner.

This is a stand-alone mystery and can be enjoyed even if you haven't read or listened to other books in the series.

Ok, but not as good as the first two books in this series

Although the storyline of this book did improve, it was rather too far fetched. Had something like this actually happened in Liverpool (I don't want to give anything away), The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine would have featured quite significantly in the case, but was not mentioned by the author.

I know that sometimes, voice actors accept other work, the transition to another actor, and one of the opposite sex was just too much of a change.

This change was compounded by the unnecessary use of sound affects. We all know what a ringing phone, choppy water, and a busy pub sound like. We do not need to be reminded in what is a book, not a dramatisation such as the BBC Radio 4 adaptation of The Hobbit. This book was almost a weird attempt at a "hybrid audiobook / dramatisation".

I don't not wish to hurt the feelings of Joe Mills, but I was not impressed by his portrayal of Izzy and other key characters. I really don't think these are the books "for him". I don't know why Nicole Sergeant did not continue to read these books, but I really wish that she would read new editions of these books.

Sorry Joe, but Nicole is better suited to this series.

To the producer: PLEASE, no more sound affects!

Many thanks.
Sarah
