About this listen

Have you met Inspector David Graham? Why not pick up this special offer (and a cup of tea) and get acquainted!

Graham is a detective inspector with London’s Metropolitan police force. He’s a career police officer, an educated, reserved, thoughtful, some might say, complex man.

He has suffered tragedy in his life that serves to exaggerate his more introspective characteristics and, like many of us, has to look his demons in the eye from time to time and make tough choices.

This box set contains the first four mysteries in this bestselling series:

The Case of the Screaming Beauty: Detective Inspector Graham is still reeling from a tragedy of his own when he is called in to investigate a murder at the prestigious Lavender bed and breakfast.

The Case of the Hidden Flame: Inspector David Graham is hoping for peace and quiet when he leaves city life behind for a quaint island village — but a suspicious death soon derails his plans.

The Case of the Fallen Hero: As he walks around the imposing Orgueil castle, Graham’s peaceful life comes to a shuddering halt when he finds a woman kneeling beside the body of a stricken man.

The Case of the Broken Doll: A missing girl. A broken doll. Dark, deviant secrets.

**This murder mystery series contains no profanity or graphic descriptions of sex or violence.**

refreshing

refreshing change to have police who aren't threatening each other, squabbling with each other and down-trodden. Good listen.

Absolutely Top Notch!

I absolutely adore this series. I like the progression from the mainland to Jersey and I’m really happy that the production team decided on this 4 book box set, because it was just the right number for an immersive story arc!

I’m off to get 5-8 now. A credit well invested.

Good Cozy Mysteries

These stories improved as they went on. Good chacter portrayal and development, and the mysteries really had me puzzled.

Excellent narration adequate story

I’m very much someone who has favourite authors that I’d never willingly miss a book from… unfortunately this author hasn’t made the list. The stories are what they are advertised as, cozy mysteries with no nasty surprises, however for me the characters have less depth than Flat Stanley, and I only remained interested because of the brilliant narration from someone who has been added to my favourite narrator list… I think he could make a phone book sound like an adventure story.
I wish I hadn’t bought 2 more box sets by this author at the same time as this one… unfortunately too late to return them so can only hope they are an improvement on this one.

Thoroughly enjoyable police detective series

This series follows the fortunes of Inspector David Graham from his position with the metropolitan police is a town in southern England to his posting as had of a small police station in the town of Gorey on the island of Jersey in the channel islands.
He is a very human character, with failings like anyone else, but I do like that Alison Golden has chosen to not go down the all too familiar path of using alcoholism as his weakness. He does get angry and of course there is his obsession with tea which makes him more 'normal'. The other characters are also very well drawn, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
The stories are all varied examples of the sort of things that police officers can find themselves involved with, investigating suspicious deaths, trying to find who is stealing from boats and searching for lost people as well as investigating a cold case.
There is more than one storyline in all the books set on Jersey, which makes them more interesting and keeps the action moving throughout the book.
This is one of my favourite police detective series, especially of those which are not 'hard boiled' and the audio version of these first four books does them full justice,.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

Stories too short

I was very dissapointed that more was not made of the excellent characters and plot stories. These are novellas, not novels to get dug into. The narration was excellent.

Sub par who dunnit

These stories fail for all the bad reasons of lazy who dunnit. In no particular order, so as to not give away spoilers, we have character introductions at the last minute, clues introduced at the last minute, complete unexplained reasoning for the concussion. Also the pace and whole chapering seems to be driven by word count, including chapters cutting scenes. Also seems to dictate the solution - we've reached the minimum word count, let's have a conclusion.
