Summary
Murder. Mayhem. A madcap lady vicar with a taste for sweets.…
Meet Reverend Annabelle Dixon…. Charming, slightly gauche, very tall, this 30-something vicar has just been appointed to the pastoral St. Mary’s Church, in the picturesque village of Upton St. Mary, Cornwall, England.
As Annabelle faithfully ministers her quaint parish, trouble seems to follow in her footsteps. Instead of her beloved tea and cake, she is regularly served a heaping plate of murder. Now if only she could have a second helping of handsome Inspector Mike Nicholls….

Classic cozy mystery
I am a huge fan of cozy mysteries and in my opinion one of the best authors in this genre is Alison Golden, and of her series my favourite is probably the Reverend Annabelle Dixon Mysteries. This epic box set of the first four books in the series makes for thoroughly enjoyable listening detailing as it does the start of her career as a Church of England vicar, and of course sleuth. It also chronicles her developing relationship with Inspector Mike Nicholls.
The four stories are all different, but they all show Annabelle's compassion and common sense, as well as her love of cake! Most importantly they are all very entertaining, particularly their portrayal of the various characters in the Cornish village where her church is.
I have to admit that when I started to listen to the first story I was a little surprised at the voice that Penny Scott-Andrews used for Annabelle, but then after the first half hour or so I couldn't imagine her sounding any different. The narration is performed very well indeed, the different characters are each given their own distinct and consistent voices. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give it is that I almost forgot that I was listening to one person and just listened to the stories without thinking about who is who.
I have listened to about 34 audio books so far, and I have to say that this has been the most enjoyable and easy to listen to.

A sweet-loving vicar with the crime-solving mind!
Meet the Reverend Annabelle, a madcap vicar who can run like the wind, loves solving murders and absolutely adores sweets of all kinds, but especially cakes ... in the first book she's in a London parish but then she moves to a countryside one in Cornwall that seems to be the west country equivalent of Morse's Oxford (a very dangerous place to live!). The reverend uses her knowledge of her parishioners and intuitive problem-solving brain to sort out all the red herrings and, to continue the fishy phrasing, winkle out the murderer. She's one of the most lovable cozy mystery protagonists I know - from 'page' one you get pulled into her story and just can't put it down!
I 'read' an ARC copy of this audiobook and this is my honest review.

An excellent story, well told if slightly annoying voice
This is a box set of the first four Annabelle Dixon stories and is great value. The stories are excellent and make for good listening, but the narrator’s voice is a little annoying. Otherwise it’s a brilliant box set that I’d highly recommend

Irritating reader voice
Enjoyed the stories, but could only listen in short bursts as the readers voice is very irritating and squeaky which spoilt the story.
