About this listen

Jessica has just had the wedding of her dreams, and now she's setting up a new home with her lawyer husband, Matthew. Even better - they are expecting a child.

But as they paint the nursery and shop for the baby, Jessica keeps waiting for the excitement to kick in. Why isn't she transformed by maternal feelings? Where is the all-consuming love she's supposed to feel for her child?

Yet again another compelling work of fiction by Amanda Prowse which us also so educational in giving the reader an insight into the problems that some people have had to endure. Thank you ,

Very thought provoking.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's just a lovely listen, despite the sadness of the running theme

What other book might you compare A Mother's Story to, and why?

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

there should be films dealing with this oh so thorny heartbreak...

Any additional comments?

I was all set for the outcome to be sadder, and it made my heart smile that I was wrong :)

Beautifully heartbreaking and brilliant

This is a story of extremes, extreme happiness and extreme misery. It is very funny in parts but mostly very sad. You might need keep some tissues!

Such a sad story but post natal depression is sad and it needs to be discussed more openly ,not just touched upon, really discussed in detail just like in this book. Very hard to listen to but fairly true to life. This audible book made me cry and smile.

A well written but heartbreakingly sad story

As a mother is was quite hard to listen to but I'm so glad I did as I now have a much deeper understanding of post natal depression. Fantastic book, taking on the very much taboo subject with amazing compassion. I adored this book and ended it with tears streaming down my face.

Breathtaking

I am simultaneously glad and sad that I listened to this book. It is really something that I would suggest you vet properly before buying. I bought it in the Audible £3 Sale on a bit of a whim. I don’t think it is a book that will leave me anytime soon.

Heartbreaking

If I’m honest I found Matt and Jessica’s romance sickly at the start but it only serves to juxtapose what happens later. I think this should be read by anyone whose thinking of having a baby. Not to scare them but to try and let them know that if they start to feel way off kilter after the birth of their baby, not to feel ashamed about saying how they feel and getting professional help for everyone’s sake. I think most if not all new mums struggle with the huge change in their life’s but jess really is very ill. The audio really brought the story to life for me. After listening to it I had to go and watch my baby girl sleeping and cherished her all the more. Thanks for shining a light on a topic that isn’t written about enough in fiction. Very happy the story ended with hope and love.

Heartbreaking but a great listen

Such a thought provoking story and I love the fact that the author narrates it herself - she’s a woman of many talents!
This is the sort of book that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading it, amazing!

What a book!

Gosh another of her amazing. True to life stories
Keep me on my toes
The start of it felt a little slow but after chapter 11/12 it was super
I now must be one of Amanda’s best fan
Please keep writing

Truly fabulous story

This book had a powerful effect on me and was able to give me insight in ways even after 10 years I could not articulate or found hard to admit/understand. It deals with a terrible illness in such a true and realistic way it frightened me as it forces deep self reflection but also compassion for oneself and others dealing with post natal depression. I thought issues like these were caused by lack of support but this story provide different perspectives.

So true to life
