Summary

A wealthy family A fatal cup of tea

Rex Fortescue was enjoying his morning cup of tea when he met his untimely end.

Suspicions naturally turn to his wife. He was filthy rich, after all.

Then she too is found dead.

Strange clues have Scotland Yard’s finest minds scratching their heads. Poisoned marmalade. Dead blackbirds. A victim found with a pocketful of rye.

It’s up to Jane Marple to put the pieces of this strange puzzle together…

Never underestimate Miss Marple

‘Captivating and addictive, Agatha Christie's work never fails to delight.’
Jean Kwok

‘This is the best of the novels starring Christie’s Miss Marple.’

Just wonderful.

Another brilliant murder mystery by the Queen of Crime herself, "A Pocket Full of Rye" is relaxing and cosy yet thrilling and fun. Richard E. Grant's flawless narration only makes the book even better. Most recommended!

Richard E Grant performs miracles with accents

Miss Christie and Miss Marple stun us as ever with the curious case of 3 murders in a mansion.

Richard Grant is amazing!

This is well worth downloading. Even though we all know the plot from various versions of the film. I was pleasantly surprised how well written the story was and how little dear old lady actually featured in this story. Richard Grants reading is pure indulgence. I never knew how beautiful his voice is. I am going to download more of books read by him.

The final sentence still thrills after all these years

I have read all of Agatha Christie’s stories, me and half the people my age. But this has always been my favourite. As it’s a novel, Miss Marple doesn’t dominate it the way she does the short stories, but she is still there to gather the threads together at the end. And as I said in the title, the last sentence still brings a thrill.

Daily walks in the park

Whilst I don't think this is the best of Christie's Marple stories, it's so beautifully narrated by Grant and I found it hugely involving and finished it in no time. It has been my recent accompaniment for daily walks in the park just as the daffodils start to come out and that sense of winter coming to an end soon. Recommended.
