Finally, an Organizing System That Works!

There is much more to understand about ADHD and organising, but this book has been the most useful so far. Thanks to the author!
I found it most helpful to listen to the audiobook WHILST cleaning. The Great Purge (done several times)..was actually fairly easy..(as was written). I liked her strategies as the WHY was explained. This has empowered me and given me a voice to explain to others.
I always seemed unable to make sense of cupboards and normal storage spaces. These would be empty, with all the mess in plain view, because I could not work out what to put where. I kept trying to fit the system, but now I am making the system fit me.
Nothing would make sense in my memory once I shut the doors or closed the drawers, if I finally put things just ‘anywhere’’, I would end up pulling everything out to find things, or just forgetting I had them and buying replica items.
The fitted kitchen cupboards (which ‘normal’ people admired) were a source of daily frustration as all looked the same when closed.
Also, I had not thought to reserve separate rooms for certain things, so many kitchen units were filled with building materials/power tools, etc since they seemed to be similar to knives and forks and kitchen gadgets.
I also had piles of mail on the kitchen surfaces, (for convenience: because they were nearest to the letterbox). I always meant to open/ sort/ file them later, but time went by until there was a mountain of paperwork. I could not break the cycle, till I read about making ‘ease of putting away’ of prime importance,
I finally decided to rip out all the kitchen and have just a countertop with no fixed cupboards, nothing hidden, see through containers,.. pull our under-counter see-through drawer units.
I chose to make the kitchen into an ADHD-minimalist, designer-space with our brain’s needs in mind.
As the author explains, the systems which work for us, work extremely well for the ‘neuro-normals’ so they will be happier too if we design places to enable us to keep them clean and tidy.
Simplify/ /purify/ clarify in order to live life more fully with our natural creativity, instead of grinding to a halt in piles of mess!
I pray this long review will help others be helped by this book.
I was really helped by this book.

It's so nice to not have to self realize (I know some would never come innately to me) all the hacks outlined in the book. Tricks have been a life changer for me.
