About this listen

THE EXTRAORDINARY NEW YA NOVEL FROM BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF IF I STAY, GAYLE FORMAN.

'Gayle Forman reigns as the queen of breaking hearts with a touch of magic'
- Adam Silvera, author of They Both Die at the End

One spring afternoon after school, Amber arrives home on her bike. It's just another perfectly normal day. But when Amber's mom sees her, she screams. Because Amber died seven years ago, hit by a car while on the very same bicycle she's inexplicably riding now.

This return doesn't only impact Amber. Her sister, Melissa, now seven years older, must be a new kind of sibling to Amber. Amber's estranged parents are battling over her. And the changes ripple farther and farther out: Amber's friends, boyfriend, and even people she met only once have been deeply affected by her life and death. In the midst of everyone's turmoil, Amber is struggling with herself. What kind of person was she? How and why was she given this second chance?

This magnificent tour de force by acclaimed author Gayle Forman brilliantly explores the porous veil between life and death, examines the impact that one person can have on the world, and celebrates life in all its beautiful complexity.

... Not because it was so good, but because there was no plot. Every character gets introduced (which isn't a good thing since they're all one-dimensional) and then the book is over. I get what the author troed to do because I've read similar books, but since there was no character arch to any of the characters, it didn't really pan out

Not your usual story...

I enjoyed this from start to finish; the performance was great, it really immersed you in the story. The story itself was beautiful, sad, and smart. A book about a teens death was always going to be sad but it was so well written that even though it was sad there was some hope and it did leave me feeling sad but also somehow peaceful. I should add that I’m mid 30s and found this story really enjoy and even if I wasn’t the target age group; I also teach high school students and know many of my students would enjoy this, it’s an ageless story really.

What a good read

I listened to this book in one sitting. I cried at the end. I really don't want to spoil the story. But a very compelling beautiful story

Profound concept
