Summary

Log-in or die.

Those are the only choices left for Clay Hopewell. Infected with the ZERO virus, he has less than 24 hours before he bites the dust. With no cure available, there's only one option left: digitally reincarnate himself in the most advanced virtual reality game ever, the mysterious and newly released Arcane Kingdom Online.

But cheating death and gaining immortality isn't that easy. If Clay survives the risky cognitive upload process, he'll still have to contend with a fantasy world teetering on the brink of crisis. Worse, a quarter of the in-game population hates his starting race, he can't unlock the mage class he wants, and a malevolent glitch threatens to upend the very existence of his new reality.

If Clay doesn't learn the rules of his new surroundings quickly, his second chance at life will be a lot worse than his first.

Not the best

The story seems simplistic but what really annoyed was the pronouncing acronyms rather when it was shorter to say the actual action A,T,K,P just say attack power and H.U.D it's hud,

Entertaining and Engaging

A good start to the series. Typical for the genre and good narration. I look forward to listening to the next book

A great book

I have not read any of Jakob’s books before, so this is an honest first-time reader review.

This is a great start to a series. You can relate to the main character, Clay and there is a familiar end of the world storyline that gently pulls you through a world which includes horrors and wonders.

Clay uploads his consciousness to an MMO when he becomes infected with a deadly plague in the real world. Unfortunately, it is not all sunshine and lollypops in the game either. He is thrown into an area that is not a starting area and is in way over his head and he struggles to survive. He teams up with an NPC thief, a human girl he knew from the real world and a few other strange characters.
I liked the detail put into the levelling experience for the new players as it gave them a fighting chance of surviving.

A classic LitRPG which flows nicely and a great start to a series.

It's HUD not H.U.D

While not the greatest story I've listened too it was entertaining and I'll definately be listening to the following books, the only real issue I have is the pronunciation of HUD

Heads Up Display, it's a HUD, no one says H. U. D

HUD is an abbreviation, you say HUD because it's faster than saying Heads Up Display, if your going to spell it out H. U. D every time then you might as well just say Heads Up Display.

decent story if average narration

It was an easy listen although there seemed a lack of originality when compared to other Litrpg books.

Not very sophisticated

World is ok but unoriginal and not well thought out. Writing is simple, even simplistic sounding like the work of an 18 year old. Characters are very basic. Won't listen to the rest of the series.
