About this listen
Somebody has been abducting children in Fairbanks, Alaska. One of the victims was 14-year-old Curtis Black's best friend, Todd.
Curtis saw it happen. He knows exactly who did it. But he can't prove that it was his neighbor, Gerald Martin. The authorities find no evidence of the crime. There's nothing they can do. So he's going to confront Mr. Martin himself. And this is just the beginning of the terrifying story....
From the author of Pressure and My Pretties comes a nerve-wracking coming-of-age thriller.

Thrilling listen!
My first Jeff Strand book, and I am hooked! This coming-of-age story features Curtis, who lives in Alaska and witnessed the abduction of his best friend. He is able to identify the kidnapper, but without evidence, there is no arrest. Now after some time and being unable to come to terms with this, he has decided to take on the serial killer himself. Interesting plot, but what I really loved about this story is the fact that Curtis is an unpopular kid, finds his first girlfriend and with the help of a variety of unlikely kids he finds his way. The mind games are fascinating and add to the building suspense. It is exciting and edgy and a thrilling listen.
Joe Hempel is incredible as he brings this story to life. From young adult to freaky psychopath, we have girls and boys, and eerie danger brought out in his narration. He is the perfect cast for this and made for an amazing listen.

Edge of the seat.
I really enjoyed this story. So well told, you felt the horror of the tale. Maybe enjoy is not the right word, if I had been watching a film I would have turned away, reading a book I might have skipped the horror. But the narrator held my attention so I just listened and went ugg. The story, was absorbing and very well written. You have to feel sorry for the situation the made the story. Apart from horror there was a love story running through. Thank you for my copy.

Not all love stories start off pretty:)
Young Curtis is a total BA for not stopping to avenge Todd. His tenacity & determination is commendable & his quick thinking when in perilous predicaments definitely saves his life👀
Old Curtis is very smooth;) Best coming of age turned love story🙂

Really entertaining and narration suits
I really enjoyed this book both the author and narrator are very talented and brought the story to life, I had to keep listening to find out how Curtis resolves the story and Mr Martin gets caught. I am not the target audience, more of a coming of age listen, but it did work for me so it works on all levels.
An added bonus was setting in Alaska and the description of the northern lights was brilliant, so awe inspiring.
I would thoroughly recommend it and off to find more by the author and narrator.
I was given a free copy by the book club audible listeners but this in no way impacted my review.

Enticing Edge of my Seat Thriller
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The fact that Curtis Black was so young and yet so brave... This story kept my attention and had me wanting to know more. I loved watching Curtis and Tina's relationship blossom and watching the two of them navigate the secrets together.
I definitely hated Mr. Martin from the beginning and his cunning ways, I knew he was bad but had no idea the twists and turns this story would take. I had no idea how bad he truly was and the fact that Curtis was smart enough to do all that he did was amazing and completely enticing. I couldn't stop I read straight through in one sitting. I enjoyed this book so much!
Joe Hempel was a great narrator, he pulled off the young and naivety perfectly and really made you feel the suspense throughout the whole book.

Good Read
A coming of age horror.... with a happy ish ending! Not the comedy horror story I thought it would be as described from some of the other reviews but amusing in parts, sad and horrific in others. The narration was excellent and the story even better beautifully written I could easily see this book as a film.

Clever, witty and recommended
A really enjoyable coming of age psychological horror/ thriller. This has an excellent plot and the story is told in a very clever and witty way, with great characters and super scene setting. Told in the first person adds to the suspense and it is gripping to the end, with a few twists and turns along the way to keep you on your toes. The narration on this audiobook adds to the story for me and I would highly recommend.

Wow!
What did I just read? This literally had me jumping at every sound. I was so invested in the story that I felt so many emotions. The narration was done really well, and the writing was amazing. The author really took me down the rabbit hole. I am still not recovered. At some points it felt like laughing, and other times I was stricken. Wow, just wow.

Great listen
Curtis sees his best friend being kidnapped, he saw who did it but there isn't enough evidence for the Police to arrest him. Taking matters into his own hands, he decides to prove it himself. A dark tale, of revenge and retribution. The story captured the atmosphere of the area and was written in a way which showed how young and naive Curtis was, but with a determination to do the right thing. An interesting listen.
