Summary

A tranquil village. A poisoned cupcake. A murdered vicar.

A simple case - or it should be. But all clues point to the Toot Hansell Women’s Institute, and Detective Inspector Adams is about to discover there’s much more to the W.I. than just bake sales and jam-making.

Alice Martin knows the ladies of the W.I. are not guilty. But she has a bigger problem. Toot Hansell has a large and dragonish secret, and she needs to keep the police well away from it. Beaufort Scales, High Lord of the Cloverly dragons, knows even better than Alice that the modern dragon only survives as long as no one knows they exist....

This investigation is about to take on dragonish proportions.

Great fun !

I very much enjoy a humorous Cosy Murder , not sure how this is classified as there are dragons popping up in the garden .
Whimsy I suppose , over 70 now and I get irritated with mistakes in historical fiction ,
( like eating chocolate in the Regency) .
I would love to find dragons the garden ,
other similar books would be The Woman and the Witch Amanda Larkman ,
also
The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wrecker .
The narration by Patricia Gallimore is perfect , and the main reason I ordered it :)

A splendid story, beautifully read

I'd already read - and loved - Baking Bad, but couldn't resist listening as well, particularly when I saw that Patricia Gallimore was the narrator. She is one of the handful of truly excellent readers who really bring something special to their work. I shall be buying audio versions of the whole series.
Baking Bad is such fun - witty and gentle, with characters you want to know more about, whether they are WI members or dragons. And recipes at the end, just in case you are expecting dragonish visitors.

Quintessentially English

I just adored the characters and setting. The narrator is superb. The author has captured something quintessentially English.
