Perfect Paranoia

Once I'd listened to Blake's 7: Warship, my first full cast audio production
I'd heard in a long time, I just had to go for another one and got myself
Fractures 1.1 as this formed the start of a series of full cast productions
that I could collect.

These recently produced series of audio stories are each around an hour long
and the format is effectively an audio version of a TV episode and as such
each is paced accordingly and should not be confused with a much longer
audio novel. These are effectively new episodes with all the production
quality you'd expect from a television series.

Fractures is another of those continuity stories that makes reference to a TV
episode and so is another nice little touch. The linkage is brief mentioning
the story featuring asteroid PK-118 which saw Travis's subterfuge that almost
had him gain control of the Liberator. In this production Brian Croucher
reprises his role as Travis hell bent on killing Blake and chasing him down
when and wherever possible. Croucher's role in this story is sadly minimal
but I am pleased to see that he gets to play a more significant part of at
least one upcoming story in this series.

Fractures is one of those clever stories that relies on paranoia rather than
action but works very well and remains interesting throughout. All key cast
members once more are present and turn in sterling performances as Blake,
Avon, Villa, Jenna and Cally. Also the new Zen and Orac voices are very
close to the original and the production quality is excellent with music and
immersive sound effects..

A supplementary featurette follows the main story and has all the usual cast
interviews but is rather shorter than the feature provided in the Warship
story. Still, nice to have.

Another quality story and a worthy addition to the series and a must for all
Blake's 7 fans.

Unexpected nostalgic delight

These new audio episodes are superb. Great stories benefit from the original cast and great atmospheric sound effects. Fairly expensive but cost not begrudged as they are likely to have a lowish volume of sales despite pristine production standards and iconic professional actors. I anticipate each episode with similar excitement as I did as a very young teen in the late 70s/early 80s.
In addition, the brief and friendly vignette from cast and writers that caps each episode feels like a pleasing after-dinner get together to which we are all invited to bask in nostalgic warmth.
Deserves a very wide audience - new and old(er)...
