Not bad
Not bad, exactly like the show. Enjoyed it, don't think you necessarily need to listen to it if you've seen the show.

Just as good as the TV show
What made the experience of listening to Broadchurch the most enjoyable?
I actually liked the fact that I had seen the tv programme and could picture the actors' faces to match the characters.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Broadchurch?
There were many moments of tension, one of them being when Ellie finds out who has been charged with Danny's murder.
Have you listened to any of Carolyn Pickles’s other performances? How does this one compare?
This was the first, I really enjoyed her characterisation. At times her voice was a little quiet and in the car I found myself having to turn up the volume as her voice dropped. This is the reason I have given the narration 4 stars and not 5.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The description of Beth, Mark and Chloe saying goodbye to Danny in the funeral parlour.
Any additional comments?
I was unsure whether to use a credit on this as I already knew the story from the tv series which I really enjoyed. Other reviewers' positive comments encouraged me to go ahead and I am really pleased I did.

Brilliant book to listen to. Watched the program years ago , but listening brings it all back . I had forgotten the plot , and how good it was . The narrator is excellent.

Absolutely stunning
Any additional comments?
You know what it's like to see a film or TV version of a well loved book and be disappointed because it doesn't fit what you had seen in your mind's eye? I had no idea what reversing the process would be like, but in this case it works brilliantly.
This book was written after the TV series and not only does it mirror that faithfully but it gives more depth to each character by allowing us into their thoughts as well as the actions we saw. It's a very effective technique and even though anyone who saw the series already knows the outcome this version is still hugely compelling, and in parts chilling.
Carolyn Pickles narration adds another dimension. Although she herself was the newspaper editor on screen, here she's everyone - and particularly effective in bringing Ellie to life.
If there was a 5 star+ classification! I'd give it. Definitely recommended.

Broadly Speaking Pretty Good
Having not watched the TV series I bought this as a “Deal of the Day” on Audible and am happy to say that it turned out to be a very satisfying book in its own right. A whodunit set in a rural backwater town mostly seen through the eyes of the detectives involved in the case and the local residents of a community traumatised by the murder of a child in its midst. This is a lot about emotions and feelings with a very good set of characters. The plot itself has a number of twists and turns but remains a human story at its core focusing a lot on the families directly involved.
Carolyn Pickles does a decent job of the narration though a few of the characters sounded very similar. The only real word of warning I would give about this one is the very ending of the book. After the big reveal about half an hour is spent on the aftermath possibly showing its TV heritage. It’s a last attempt to tug at the heart strings. If you’re the sort of person that gets irritated by that you might find yourself a little fed up by the time you get to the very end.
For me that was okay, it provides some level of closure. When characters are good like these are then it’s okay to spend just a little more time with them and get some nods as to how some of the issues will work out for them. Some may find it slightly heavy going though and it probably touched on the extremes of what I am happy with.
All in all though a decent read.

Gripping to the end
Having not watched the TV series but heard lots of good reviews I downloaded the audio book with high expectations which I can happily report were met. Pacy throughout and with a plot turn at the end which I did not expect I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and felt that it was complimented well by the narration.

Excellent!
Really good.
Didn't watch the TV series, and was determined not to listen to watchers, in the staff room at work. Was really pleased, as this kept you guessing right to the end.
Highly recommend. Brilliant
