A beautiful sequel
Another stunning tale of Veronica and her feathered friends. Thought provoking, funny, sweet. I do hope there will be a third installment!

Easy listening but preferred first one
It was easy to listen to and I love Nicolette Mackenzie narrating but apart from the story of Patrick’s dad not a lot happened in this one. Was expecting a bit more but it was a nice easy listen especially with the times we live in

A sequel to the delightful Away with the Penguins
I enjoyed Away with the Penguins so much that I had to get this sequel. In her gentle story telling Hazel Prior throws all kinds of unlikely people together who are all passionate about the same thing: Penguins. Through Veronica she shows us that it’s never too late to have amazing adventures & romance in life; through little Daisy the healing power of wildlife & the natural environment. Several of the characters are dealing with deep grief that despite the passage of time still haunts them. But the Penguins draw them all together until they all find a way to express & share their grief & become happier for it. At the end there is a serious message to everyone about how harmful plastic is to the environment careless discarding of it floats in our oceans & kills birds in faraway places like that Falkland Islands. I also liked how the story is narrated from the point of view of the three main characters.

Just one star removed because...
I didn't find this quite as engaging as the first novel about these characters. But I'm still glad I read it. I'm not quite sure I could say what was missing; maybe if I'd listened to it at another time I would have given it five stars. I don't know. But it was a sweet, easy book, and I did want to know how problems were resolved for Veronica and all the people she became fond of in the last book. And modern day issues were raised too, to make the reader think. Maybe that's what disappointed me? If so, that's me being shallow. They weren't overdone. I think I just wanted to lose myself in pure fantasy for a while. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll probably enjoy this one. If you haven't read the first penguin book, then definitely start with that. This could be read on its own, but you'd be missing a treasure. Maybe read both together, this one straight after the first, and then I'm sure you'd give them both five stars.
