Summary

David Copperfield is the story of a boy growing to maturity in the affairs of the world and of the heart, surrounded by some of Dickens' most memorable characters: David's eccentric great-aunt, Miss Betsey Trotwood; the ever-optimistic Mr Micawber; jolly Peggotty and her willing husband Barkis; the charming Steerforth; the ever so 'umble Uriah Heep; and the foolishly innocent Dora.

But will David finally find happiness with the faithful Agnes Wickfield, whom he has known since childhood? And is her own future secure, threatened as it is by Uriah Heep, her father's clerk?

This full-cast audio dramatisation of the Dickens classic stars Miriam Margolyes, Timothy Spall, Phil Daniels, and Sheila Hancock.

Absolutely Brilliant Cast!

This Is a wonderful, coming-of-age story!

David Copperfield's life story bears many comparison’s to Dicken’s own.

David Copperfield, has the most amazing number of acquaintances, friends & enemies!

There are many wonderful characters woven into this tale. There are also those that you wouldn’t want to come across, as a small boy, or young man.

The brilliant cast, doesn’t have a weak link!

Enjoy!

Couldn't be Improved On!

Absolute love this dramatised version of David Copperfield. It is familiar I think because I must have heard it on the radio? The cast is superb. I know this will be a companion forever whether travelling sewing or just sitting. A real treasure

Dickens and BBC at their Best!

Would you consider the audio edition of David Copperfield (Dramatised) to be better than the print version?

For me all the characters are brought to life and are really well defined by the excellent cast.

What other book might you compare David Copperfield (Dramatised) to, and why?

Bleak House is another roller coaster of a book that has so many complex characters that are all the better for being dramatised. So easy get back into the book once you restart your listening.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Narrators are the key for me, not all narrators are blessed with skills to deliver a believable and entertaining experience. For example the likes of Anton Lesser is the finest exponents of the art. There are others who can make or break a story. It's an art.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

David meeting his aunt for the first time and appealing for her surpport.

Charles Dickens and BBC At Their Best

The story tells us of the worst and the best of humanity. Such is the powerful writing of Charles Dickens and the casts acting ability had me in tears and in shock when telling the time of David Copperfield, his cruel step father and his sister. Then the joy of meeting his aunt when begging for help.
So many strong and interesting characters in one story, each with their own role in life which involved David Copoerfield to develop and round his kind soul.
This dramatisation is a must for a Dickens follower and an excellent introduction to people have not met David Copperfield.or Charles Dickens.

Total Brilliance!

Well, I'm a Dickens fan anyway. The unabridged book is always worth reading/listening to first, so that when you hear a dramatization of this quality, you can appreciate how closely they've adhered to the original story and captured the spirit of Dickens. I think he would approve!

Never fails to capture my full attention

Always available downloaded on my audible so an easy one to listen to when travelling on a flight etc; I then end up listening to it all over again. Such a lovely story full of drama and wonderful characters. The only talking book I cry to out of sadness and happiness.
