Summary
Island life suits Susan, and she can’t imagine ever moving from her beloved Isle of Wight. So it gives her real pleasure to see her young lodger Colette settle in to life by the sea, especially knowing that she has such a troubled past.
Susan’s days are comfortingly routine, starting every morning by exercising her beloved Rocco on Ventnor beach with her fellow dog walkers. The group may have bonded over their fondness for their canine companions, but over time their friendships have deepened.
So, when Colette dies in suspicious circumstances at Castle Cove, Susan is devastated to realise that the dog walking group were the last to see Colette alive, and one of her friends must have been responsible for her death.
And when Susan begins to suspect that the police are minded to put Colette’s death down to an accident, Susan decides she won’t rest until she solves the mystery and finds the murderer.
A brand new cosy mystery from the author of the bestselling The House Party. Perfect for fans of Frances Evesham, Faith Martin and LJ Ross.

Pleasant listening
An easy listening cosy crime story. Enjoyable when you don’t want a plot with too much intrigue or gore!

The shipping forecast
Unfortunately I found this book really hard going.
The narration was read in a clear precise manner and felt like listening to the shipping forecast.
This spoilt the story, which didn't seem to have the strength of Mary Grands other books.

Is Are the dog walkers harbouring a KILLER?
Mary Grand’s story has two particularly strong qualities which make for absorbing and satisfying listening - an intricate plot well-worked out which keeps you listening and guessing, and the special very lovely, real-life Isle of Wight island setting which is so refreshingly different from St Mary Mead or Midsomer Country.
Susan had taken troubled Colette into her home and when the young woman is found dead at the Cove where the local dog-walking friendship group gather each day, it is Susan who will not accept that Colette’s death is anything other than murder, however dangerous her tenacity becomes.
The intricacies of the dog walkers’ lives and Susan’s various suspicions of them are cleverly developed as, in detective story tradition, theories build and fall as we keep thinking we’ve cracked it, only to find we haven’t With the beautiful island setting and the intriguing characters all hiding their particular secrets, I can see it all as an excellent television drama.
The narrator is sympathetic and pleasant o listen to, but she should have learned that Ventnor, the place where it all plays out, is pronounced Ventna and not Vent-nor. The name comes up constantly throughout and she uses both pronunciations.
