Summary

When society widow and gossip columnist Lady Jane Winters joins the local fishing class she wastes no time in ruffling feathers of those around her. Among the victims of her sharp tongue is Lochdubh constable Hamish Macbeth, yet not even Hamish thinks someone would seriously want to silence Lady Jane’s shrill voice permanently – until her strangled body is fished out of the river.

Now with the help of the lovely Priscilla Halburton-Smythe, Hamish must steer a course through the choppy waters of the tattler’s life to find a murderer. But with a school of suspects who aren’t willing to talk, and the dead woman telling no tales, Hamish may well be in over his head for he knows that secrets are dangerous, knowledge is power, and killers when cornered usually do strike again.

M. C. Beaton is the author of the best-selling Agatha Raisin series. She has also written several Regency romance series. She lives between Paris and the Cotswolds.

Hooked again

After listening to ALL of Agatha Raisin books, and in order, something was missing in my life! And then Hamish Macbeth appeared! Hooked immediately after book 1. Obviously written in and for the period but it all adds to the audio experience. Relaxing, enjoyable yet leaves you wanting more. A handsome redhead would be calming in all our lives, yet such fun too.
Am trying to download all the books to have ready for my next listen.
Just what is needed, whilst ironing, cooking or just enjoying the sunshine.

Very enjoyable

This story ran at quite a pace, with quite few twists. When everyone hates a person, who could have done it?

Middling

Was a bit disappointing overall, the story wasn’t captivating and the fishing part gets boring very quick

Fabulous fun

As a fan of Agatha Raisin, I thought I would try Hamish Macbeth I in the 2 for 1 sale.

M C Beaton has not disappointed. Full of the kind of humour and well-written characters that I've come to expect, this was great entertainment.

David Monteith was a superb narrator.

Easy listening

A good easy listening whodunnit, nicely told (though Liverpool accent needs work). Charming and thoughtful. Underestimate Hamish Macbeth at your peril!
