About this listen

A blend of literary fiction, psychological suspense and supernatural horror from the author of A Head Full of Ghosts.

Late one summer night, Elizabeth Sanderson receives the devastating news that every mother fears: her 13-year-old son, Tommy, has vanished in the woods of a local park. Riddled with worry, pain and guilt, Elizabeth is wholly unprepared for the strange series of events that follow. As the search grows more desperate, and the implications of what happened become more haunting and sinister, no one is prepared for the shocking truth about that night.

There were definitely reveals and some great horror elements, but I’d say the story was pretty laid out from the beginning. It felt longer and slower than a story of its kind needed to be, but the characters were good and I was satisfied with the ending. I didn’t like it as much as Head Full of Ghosts but preferred it to Cabin at the End of the World. Worth taking a chance on if you’re curious!

Satisfying but not exciting?

It was ok, persevered to the end in case there was a twist but there wasn’t. Won’t rush to buy another of his books.

Mediocre

Another fantastic book by Paul Tremblay I had guessed what happened to Tommy but you get so invested in the story you want to know the hows and whys you continue listening the more you listen and learn the more you want to read/listen all the way to the end.

One word brillant.

Creepy, spooky, and sad. Another brilliant modern horror from Paul Tremblay. Great reader and production quality.

Read this after head full of ghosts, which is still my favourite of the two. I think I remember reading some reviews saying the narrator was boring but I disagree, at the beginning it can seem so but her reading style suits the book well.

If anyone has ever watched mungo lake then this book is extremely similar, to the point I feel one most have inspired the other.

I wanted to like this but it just never gripped and in the end dragged

At times nearly but not really...

The narrator was extremely monochromatic and the story line was that of a children's book. But all and all I suppose it was bearable.

meh
