Summary

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet meets The 100 in this unforgettable debut by a brilliant new voice.

A century ago, scientists theorised that a habitable planet existed in a nearby solar system. Today, ten astronauts will leave a dying Earth to find it. Four are decorated veterans of the 20th century’s space-race. And six are teenagers, graduates of the exclusive Dalton Academy, who’ve been in training for this mission for most of their lives.

It will take the team 23 years to reach Terra-Two. Twenty-three years spent in close quarters. Twenty-three years with no one to rely on but each other. Twenty-three years with no rescue possible, should something go wrong. And something always goes wrong.

not what I expected

as much a coming of age story... whilst the concept of alternate history timeline is intresting there is little else to get to grips with in terms of science fiction... sure there is space travel and there are intresting scenarios throughout but overall not what I was expecting.
narration was very good

Do You Dream of Terra-Two? I do now!!!

I love this book. What a brilliant story sci-fi with a human interest story. I was not expecting those plot twists and now I can’t wait to know what happens next. There must be a sequel! What a brilliant new voice.
And the narrator was wonderful too! She brought the characters to life.
Excellent debut novel. I loved it.

This is Unique !

Well alas I listen to most of my audible books in day and night ,when I doze off stiil have a feeling and some spoilers ,go back to reset ,alas missed the middle but the adventure continues !
What can I say about this ,well all about UK Space Exploration in 2012 ,they need kids to go to Terra 2 ,23 years at light speed!
This is all about characters ,emotions ,betrayals love ,passion family ,suicide ,living in minus 20 degrees at times ! Young kids bought up to lead a 23 year mission to Terra 2 .......Well have to say this book is totally incredible , a totally different style and makes you think even from the beginning WHAT are the right decisions ,the Characters are the story
Space their enemy ,this is like way more scary than Alien ,because it could happen ,just wait until you get to -18 degrees .Oxygen 60 % ,5 .days for relief, makes the Martian look like a holiday trip and the end will spin your brain out of control ,ENJOY..Temi Oh ...Thanks for a total masterpiece of sci fi , so original ,haunting ,so emotional still will never know the answers ,great stuff !
Never ,ever expected the ending , amazing!

Skip to the last two hours.

Nearly gave up on this after it seemed to be going nowhere but the last few hours were not too bad and I found it quiet intresting and well put together. Unfortunately, the many hours at the beginning did mot make the ending any better and could and should have been shortened without losing much. Only my opinion tho.

Listenable, but flawed

Firstly, I could have done with it saying somewhere in the description that it's a book for teenagers or young adults as I believe they're called now. That way I'd have been far less disappointed with the sketchy characterisation and simplistic development.
Once you realise it's a kids book, then the stereotypes and standard tropes make more sense and the book transforms from a vaguely irritating listen to a middling one.
On that basis it just about stays the right side of silly (were it a proper hard science fiction novel it would cross the line into downright ludicrous.)
That said, the narrator does a passable job of bringing two dimensional characters to life and it's nice for a change to see a publisher promote a book that's not written by or read by white middle aged men.

A book about the dreamers of a future!

Loved it! Held my breath during the treeplanting day and felt my heart race in the airlock scene.
I would love to read more from the chinese ship and the marscolony!

I almost skipped after reading a comment of it never starting. So glad I didn't! And I don't agree!

Good listen

I enjoyed this book it’s well read and has a good story line it’s a easy listen which doesn’t take much concentration to follow
It’s down sides are no real twists or surprises that you don’t see coming a mile off
And it spends a lot of time filling out the characters
In some cases unnecessarily
But I did enjoy it for the most part

Growing pains & the meaning of life in space!

Excellent story, great idea with so much potential but just way too slow in pace!
