About this listen
THE OBSERVER BOOK OF THE YEAR
‘Fear is a meticulously researched account of a White House and a president in financial, legal and personal disorder . . . essential reading’ Daily Mail
THE INSIDE STORY ON PRESIDENT TRUMP, AS ONLY BOB WOODWARD CAN TELL IT.
With authoritative reporting honed through eight presidencies from Nixon to Obama, author Bob Woodward reveals in unprecedented detail the harrowing life inside President Donald Trump’s White House and precisely how he makes decisions on major foreign and domestic policies. Woodward draws from hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand sources, meeting notes, personal diaries, files and documents. The focus is on the explosive debates and the decision-making in the Oval Office, the Situation Room, Air Force One and the White House residence.
Fear is the most intimate portrait of a sitting president ever published during the president’s first years in office.

Gripping
incredible story from Bob Woodward highlighting the carnage, chaos and incredible day to day existence of the Trump White House. Adds to the many great accounts such as James Comey and makes you realise how crazy it is behind the curtain!

Inside the dysfunctional White House
Truth is stranger than fiction, in what feels like a fly-on-the-wall documentary. Great listen. Loved it.

Gripping
Fire and Fury was more of a tabloid piece that just could not carry credibility. Fear however is captivating, plausible and I could not stop listening. The performance by Petkoff was great and I could feel him holding back from a full blown Trump impersonation. Wonderful and will listen again.

Found it enlightening
I believe this account is accurate. Many times I started to have sympathy for Trump as he does seem to get treated unfairly BUT his character and outlook are so flawed that he must be the worst US president ever. Listening to this Audible book I understand where he is coming from. Most experts think his policies totally wrong but after reading I still wonder "What if he is right to put money and America first" Scarey but I will follow Trumps' presidency with greater understanding and fascination as a result of reading Fear.

Intriguing
Firstly I am from the UK, but I sailed through this, well written (and read) audible book straight after the audible version of 'Fire and Fury' the Stephen Wolfe book to which Bob Woodward refers. Together they present a dim view of the President by many, covering an intriguing topic from different perspectives dependent in their sources.
James Comey's book next but highly recommend this one. (Swear)word of swearing; had to don headphones when the kids where about. Great last line.

Gripping
Gripping yet utterly terrifying. Woodward paints a rational picture of a very irrational figure. The performance is the perfect reflection of the text.

Extremely interesting but equally disturbing.
I am not sure how many times we can be told that Donald Trump's presidency was a lie filled and psychopathic journey that has rocked American politics to the core. However, when it comes straight from the horse's mouth we can only but sit up and listen. Hoping that enough people do so as to bring some change to the danger that is Trumpism. We will see...loved this audiobook, well read.

A sobering insight
Woodward’s Fear gives rich depth to the colour provided by Michael Wolff’s Siege. Fear is perhaps the more informed narrative, stories are clearly extensively sourced and corroborated. There is the same extensive use of dialogue to bring life to some of the more alarming episodes and exchanges between Trump and his key advisors.
Fear seems particularly well sourced on defence and security and the chapters dealing with Trump’s approach to North Korea are both fascinating and slightly terrifying.
It’s here that the book does adopt that darker approach which makes it distinctive from Siege and typically Woodward.
At the same time Woodward does not lack anecdotes on Trump’s personal behaviour; a man obsessed with TV and Twitter, inept and volatile in equal measure and whose only real satisfaction is to bask in the blind loyalty of unwavering supporters.

This one will require a follow up
Not quite as entertaining as Fire & Fury, but clearly the author had excellent access and firms up the obvious: utter incompetence of the WH and its leader. I hope Woodward is preparing a Part II for the rest of the president’s term.
