Summary
His cheeks are as tender as raw meat on a butcher's block. And those are just the cheeks of his face. As he slumps in the saddle, watching the road disappear into the distance, he aches in parts of his body that he's only just discovering he has.
When Mark travels to Ecuador to go hiking and climbing, he discovers a land of dramatic volcanoes rising through the clouds and wide-open horizons rich in history. But when his partner Edita suggests a return visit, she has a very different adventure in mind: to cycle across the Andes and complete a unique sea-to-summit challenge by climbing the highest mountain starting from sea level.
It will be an intrepid world first (or so they think). But there's just one problem: Mark can barely cycle over a road bridge without getting off to push. With a month to train, they rent some bikes and head to Scotland to cycle the North Coast 500. Will this be enough to prepare them for an epic adventure to climb a mountain that in one respect is the highest in the world?

My favourite type of audiobook
Entertaining and heartwarming ☺️👍🏼 Mark and Edita ❤️ I felt for Mark especially on the NC500, I felt his pain,🚴♂️ Edita was brilliant at keeping their spirits up.
Philip B is a great narrator also, sounds like a great guy . ✊🏼

2nd Enjoyable audiobook from Mark Horrell
I had previously listened to the authors book on hiking everest and had enjoyed his style of writing with descriptions of the beautiful landscapes, a history of the areas and then usually amusing accounts of his own adventures. while I don't normally choose to listen to cycling adventures, I decided to try this book as I enjoyed his previous one so much and I'm glad I did. The descriptions of Scotland were amusing as I know some of the areas he cycled through quite well and his descriptions of Ecuador made me want to visit someday.
I would recommend for anyone who enjoys a travel or adventure book.

Entertaining adventure writing
I bought this thinking it was an epic cycling adventure by a fearless and accomplished cyclist, instead I got an entertaining account of an expert hilker and mountaineer but rubbish cyclist combining the two activities to give the listener an insight into what great adventures can be had if you just take that first step and go for it.

Fun and Engaging
Loved it, often found myself chuckling to myself as I rode along, people probably thought I was a bit bonkers. Bought this to open my realms of possibility, which it certainly has done.
