About this listen
Michael:
Two years ago, I made a mistake, a big one. Then I added a couple more just for good measure. I screwed up my life, but I survived. Now I have the opportunity for a fresh start. Two years in NZ. Away from the LA gossip, a chance to breathe, to rebuild my life. But I’m taking a new set of rules with me.
I don’t do relationships.
I don’t do commitment.
I don’t do white picket fences.
And I especially don’t do arrogant, holier-than-thou, smoking hot K9 officers who walk into my ER and rock my world.
Josh:
One thing for certain, Dr. Michael Oliver is an arrogant, untrustworthy player, and I barely survived the last one of those. He might be gorgeous, but my daughter takes number one priority. I won’t risk her being hurt, again. I’m a solo dad, a K9 cop and a son to pain-in-the-arse parents.
I don’t have time for games.
I don’t have time for taking chances.
I don’t have time for more complications in my life.
And I sure as hell don’t have time for the infuriating Dr. Michael Oliver, however damn sexy he is.

Good
I enjoyed this story, it was interesting and the main characters were likeable. As well as the drama there were touches of humour. It's definitely worth a listen.

Much prefer Crossing the Touchline...
Not as good for me as Crossing the Touchline, so that mirrors the books and I'll leave the rating the same too. There were some errors in this one, and to be honest, I hadn't noticed how much sex there was in the story until I listened to the audio, but happy that Mr Furlong wasn't as monotonous as he is reading the Soulbound series by Hailey Turner and Dal Maclean's Bitter Legacy series. Maybe I'll give the Bitter Legacy series another go come to think of it, but am looking forward to him reading John Wiltshire's More Heat than the Sun series if he maintains the same upbeat tone [which doesn't send you to sleep 😴😴😴] that he's employed for these Auckland Med. stories.
***Book Review November 2019***
4.25 stars from me. Another well-written story from Jay Hogan, so that's 3 out of 3 for me now.
I have to confess I did read book 2 Crossing the Touchline first, as there was some problem with the original publisher and Dreamspinner then picked up the series [phew, talk about out of the frying pan into the fire 🙁...], but really enjoyed this one. Redemption for Michael, and a sort of second chances thing for both he and Josh. Yes, throw a feisty pre-teen into the mix and anything could've happened 😉, but glad to get the backstory to Cameron Wano, MC of Crossing the Touchline after the event so to speak. Have to say Josh's parents were just dreadful, and can't blame Sasha one bit for acting up around them.

Do they dare to love again?
Michael fled the US to work overseas in New Zealand after his live fell apart. Josh is a k-9 police dog handler who lives for his daughter and does not believe he can find a man who will be his alone.
They discover they mean more to eachother than they expected. At this point their lives especially Michaels turn upside down. However they find their HEA at the end.
They audio is adequately done. There are some annoying audio glitches in this book, especially in the beginning and some later on.3,5* foe audio 4* for the book.

If only people would talk
A touching story of two men who could have managed to talk to each other they could have saved a lot of heartache. Touching story well written and some witty moments with a ten year old daughter. Well narated with great accents.

Not even fab narration could save this book
I was really looking forward to this book because of the blurb and narration. Gary Furlong's narration is flawless, but the writing is far from that.
While the story begins well, when the two mc's eventually get together what happens next is basically two chapters...of around an hour of audio, of 'painting by numbers' mm sex. Every cliched line you can think of was included in the sex scenes. They were unoriginal, interminably boring, and gratuitous- solely the fault of the writer not the narrator. They didn't push the narrative at all and made me want to dnf the book
I did put the audiobook aside for a time, and then persevered. Sadly, I'm not impressed and won't be buying any other titles by this author.
