About this listen
Gifted with meta-human powers in a world full of capes and villains, Tori Rivas kept away from the limelight, preferring to work as a thief in the shadows. But when she's captured trying to rob a vault that belongs to a secret guild of villains, she's offered a hard choice: prove she has what it takes to join them or be eliminated.
Apprenticed to one of the world's most powerful (and supposedly dead) villains, she is thrust into a strange world where the lines that divide superheroes and criminals are more complex than they seem. The education of a villain is not an easy one, and Tori will have to learn quickly if she wants to survive. On top of the peril she faces from her own teacher, there are also the capes and fellow apprentices to worry about, to say nothing of having to keep up a civilian cover.
Most dangerous of all, though, are those who loathe the guild's very existence. Old grudges mean some are willing to go to any length to see the guild turned to ash, along with each one of its members. Even the lowly apprentices.

addictive story with a great finish
I first thought the book was overly detailed but then got used to the style and by the end I was compelled to find out what happened next. I really grew into the story.narration was a bit limited but I never got confused with dialogue. I liked the detail in the design of the world. I could easily believe this existed.

If powereds was avengers then this is daredevil :)
Any additional comments?
after listening to drew hays other books (which where quite good) i was expecting the modula and episodic writing from his web series powereds, but i was happily surprised. this felt a lot more cohesive than his other works.
the story is excellent the characters relatable and the powers unique and interesting. for me it hits the perfect mix of light heartedness and large epic superheroes/villains both with dark motives.
the performances was well done and very immersive and i hope if the series is continued that Amy Landon will continue to narrate.

Slow in the beginning, but builds to fire
Great take on a 'Hero-Villian' story in a very believable world.
My only gripe is that this story does not grab you from the get-go, it takes some serious time for both the plot and characters to come in their own.
This story is a slow broil, you feel a simmer and you catch a whiff of smoke here and there, it takes its time, but by the end its cooking with fire.
Same goes for the characters, but that actual works against the story. Because you know so little about the characters and are only drip-fed information about who they are and what they did, its hard to invest in the main characters in the beginning.
But I would highly recommend sticking with till the end.

One of the best
This is hands down one of the best books I have listened to. The performance is SO good. The story is top notch, a great take on villains and the inner workings of its society. I am so looking forward to the second book.

An awesome Supervillain book
A great Supervillain book showing nicely the trials without being ridiculous. the sorry flows well and the characters feel believable with no one being excessive 2d. Credit to the Narrator for a brilliant performance that pulls you into the book.

If You Like Invincible
I love it. If you like the TV show "Invincible" on Amazon Prime, you'll like this. It's got science, magic, aliens, monsters, interdimensional beings etc. It feels the similar on that front.
This book is written in third person omniscient. It's weird at first, but stick with it. You get used to it and it doesnt negatively impact the story at all.

A riveting listen
This is one of those books where after I had finished, I immediately looked for a sequel, sadly nothing so far, but I live in hope to learn more of the Guild of Villains

Fantastic anti heroes
Still unsure whether this book is targeting at children or adults but that is testament in itself to a broad appeal! So much fun
