About this listen

Many of us have forgotten how to move correctly. We live with muscular imbalances, constant pain and low energy. Adam Sinicki is on a mission to change this. He is best known for his YouTube channel The Bioneer, where he provides expertise on functional training, brain training, productivity, flow states and more. Currently popular functional training is exercise as rehabilitation. It aims to restore normal, healthy strength and mobility using compound and multifaceted movements. In Functional Training and Beyond, Adam reveals how we can become better than just functional. We can improve not only our physical performance but also our mental state. We can train so that we move better, think more clearly, feel energetic and even live more efficiently.

Functional Training and Beyond shows us how we can train our brains just like our bodies and how to incorporate this into a comprehensive, well-rounded program.

Be more Batman

A long time fan of Adam Sinicki’s YouTube channel, the bioneer, I couldn’t wait for his book to come out. His ebook and channel have influenced me greatly and I knew this book would have a positive effect on me as well.

The ideas discussed in this book are the antidote for the toxic gym bro culture and suggests training for use rather than unobtainable looks like a lot of content producers. The book breaks down many areas of fitness and functional movement that will help add variety to your workout as well as making you super functional. No more of the body builders workouts that mean you workout 6 times a week but still can’t run for a bus.

The training provided has helped keep me motivated to stay healthy during lockdown as well as switch my mindset from aesthetics to useful fitness.

Turns out there was a missing ingredient to my workout: Batman.

Unique and refreshing take on fitness

A highly recommended read. This book has a good balance of science and common sense and puts the control in the hands of the individual to decide what is right for him/her to improve their overall fitness.
A good overview of all the main fitness disciplines and it also introduces the importance of mental as well as physical toughness and agility.
I think I’ve got stronger over the course of listening to this book as a result of being inspired to do incidental exercise along the way!

Loved it

Loved the book and audio copy and thought it was very informative. I will certainly keep it on hand as a future reference for training/recovery tips. Hope to see more from the Bioneer!

Excellent book

I encountered Adam via his Bioneer YouTube channel and didn't realise he'd written a book until I found this. The book perfectly distills his functional training philosophy in an inspiring way. Read it and take action.

A good explanation of what you need to know

A comprehensive introduction to exercise as a physiological aspect of well-being, health and performance. I learnt a lot from this book with regards to seeing exercise as a holistic process of becoming a better you.
