Summary
It’s been 12 years since the undead hordes swept over the earth, forcing mankind to the brink of extinction. We now live like rats, scavenging in the ruins of our fallen civilization as the dead hunt us night and day.
There is little left to scavenge, however. Grocery stores were emptied ages ago, gas tanks have long been dry, and bullets are so precious that a man is lucky to have two to his name.
Still, we survive.
But for how much longer? Instinct and love have combined to turn Darwin’s theory on its head. The strongest didn’t survive in this world. They were the first to die, leaving behind a generation of orphans.
It’s a generation that’s never had a full belly. It’s a generation that has no idea what an Xbox did, or what algebra is for. It’s a generation of children who never laugh out loud, and who have learned to cry softly because the dead are always near and the dead are always so very, very hungry.

Not for the easily offended
It's disappointing to read the reviews with 'distasteful' and 'racist' in them for the Apocalypse and Gen Z books. The author makes it abundantly clear that this is a 'gloves off' apocalyptic tale, where the realistic situation of the collapse of law and order gives way to the uprising of the evils in society. If you want a nice story where all your favourite characters survive, 'even the dog doesn't die' and it's all OK in the end, look somewhere else.
Peter Meredith is a brutal author who has, and I'm sure, will, continue to kill off lead and favourite characters, but he does this to keep true of the reality of the story and the situations, he stirs emotions like no auther ive heard. There's no untouchable James Bond that tenuously saves they day in these books
After listening to the full Apocalypse Crusade saga and absolutely loving it, when it was all originally released. I initially missed that this follow-on was written. I'm now a book and a half in, and it's brilliant.
Like the Apocalypse, it takes the first book to set the scene, so it takes a little to get up to full speed, but it's all in there for a reason.
I was a little sceptical of how the older Jilly Bean character would work now, being 17 in this book. If you've listened to Apocalypse, Jilly Bean will most likely be one of your most favourite characters ever. It took a little bit of time for the book to lay the new foundations of the older Jilly Bean, but the way he has kept the original appeal of the character is genius, her and Eve have been taken to another
