About this listen
From the award-winning author of Pirates of Aletharia, comes its highly anticipated sequel, Goddess of the Sea.
Emilia Drakon, pirate, fugitive, and dragon sorceress, loves her captain and her dragons, and she'll do whatever it takes to protect them—including the will of a sea goddess.
Captain Maria Welles, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to see her enemies bleed. If she wants safety for her crew, that's only because she's their captain, and if she longs for the love of her sword-and-magic-wielding surgeon, em . . . well, okay, that's where things get complicated.
Regardless, Maria can honestly say she has no interest in playing this deadly game between gods and goddesses, but when she finds herself in the middle of it anyway, the infamous pirate captain, who likes to think she knows everything, will have to delve into a world unknown to her.
Luckily, she has her dragon-riding surgeon to serve as guide.
Contains mature themes.
©2023 Britney Jackson (P)2025 Tantor MediaI'm not a usually a huge fan of love stories and romance in books but there is something about this story that has really got to me, I see a lot of myself in Emilia and her relationship with Maria especially is one I really love.
I also love how Lindsey Dorcus narrates and always have the individual characters voices in my head when I'm reading now.
I'd highly recommend this series, I'm so glad I found it!
My favourite book series!

There is both found and dragon family, very cute, with a fun cast of characters. Several members of the crew really grow on you and I find myself desperately rooting for their happiness.
The main couple is adorable and are both interesting, multi-dimensional characters - flaws and all. I found hearing more of their backstories revealed in this book engrossing in spite of not usually enjoying flashbacks. Their relationship progress and problem solving is satisfying and stays in character. Neither character has a sudden personality transplant or is miraculously healed and problem-free due to falling in love. But they are sweet and committed and protective of one another (their threats of physical harm to one another remain relatively empty). They're shaping up to be quite the power couple.
Main character has neurodivergent traits which I think are well integrated in her personality/behaviour without becoming the entirety of it.
This sequel further explores trauma responses as well as difficulties of being part of a misunderstood minority group.
Audiobook was very well performed by the voice actor (Lindsey Dorcus).
Loving this series!

I enjoyed this 'romp' although it was fairly slow going , the writing was a bit different with lots of comedic banter. The story also looks back and fills in some historic gaps of the MC's. LD really does narrate well and her timing is spot on. A good series, I just hope we get audiobook three sooner rather than annoyingly later !
