About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Everyone wants to feel at home and at ease with themselves. We all want to be able to face any situation, both in life and at work, without feeling daunted, intimidated or stressed. But no one wants to be labelled over-confident, arrogant or smarmy, or to get caught up in their own hype. So how can you feel authentically, properly confident - without the cringe, and without pretending to be something you're not?
Happy high status is a new way of thinking about confidence and how you relate to yourself. It's how actors and comedians enhance their presence on stage and screen. And in this inspirational guide, Viv Groskop explains how we can access it at any time to lend strength and energy to our interactions, big and small.
Drawing on research, practical tips and lessons from the worlds of comedy, film, television, politics and sport, this is a masterclass in how to project status, minimise self-doubt and move effortlessly through life. All, crucially, with no risk of anyone thinking that you are your own biggest fan.

I also realised that quite possibly Viv might have binged even more TV drama than I have, with all the apt character references!
You might surprise yourself, and realise that you already have your own Happy High Status, even if you need help finding it in certain situations, or in my case, remembering where you left it. Or is that my glasses?
For me, Happy High Status means being at ease talking with colleagues on a conference call, advising on matters where I have the experience and the knowledge to do my job well.
One of the best pieces of advice in this book is when things don't go according to plan, say your slides don't work, or you lose your train of thought, don't focus on yourself and how you feel, focus on your audience and how they feel. And how they're feeling is probably not half as bothered as you're feeling! There's something rather liberating in that.
