About this listen
The war has begun. Both sides demand Diem's allegiance—or her death.
After her disastrous coronation, Diem finds herself at the center of the conflict between the Descended and the Guardians. With her newfound friends and the man she's falling for on one side, and the mortals she has vowed to protect on the other, Diem must walk a careful line to save the people she loves…even from each other.
The mystery of her unusual heritage begins to unravel, sending Diem and Luther on an unexpected journey across the realms. The answers may hold the key to winning the war, but finding them will require her to face painful truths about her mother, her bloodline, and her fate.
Meanwhile, the Crowns have set Diem in their sights. Some could be her greatest allies—while others want her dead. To end their oppressive reign, Diem must sort friend from foe and risk it all to build an army of her own.
But a powerful figure in the north has plans that could change everything...
Heat of the Everflame is the third book in The Kindred's Curse Saga, a four-book epic fantasy romance series that follows our feisty, bad*ss heroine Diem Bellator in her fight against injustice, her struggle to survive in a royal palace full of betrayal and intrigue, and her journey of self-discovery and finding true love.
This slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers series is perfect for fans of unique magic systems, dragons and other mythical creatures, angst and romantic tension, and hilarious banter. This series will appeal to fans of plot-heavy, character-driven romantasy such as A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, Blood and Ash, The Plated Prisoner, Grisha, and Crowns of Nyaxia.

Stop What You're Doing and Read This.
Cole has my heart in a vice with the third book of the Kindred's Curse series. Her epic and winding plot, the richness of her world building and the intense complexity of her characters has absolutely captivated me. The most striking element of Cole's storytelling is the depth with which she understands her characters. They don't make the choices you want them to make, they make the choices in line with who we now know them to be following books 1 and 2, leading to often painful and thrilling moments of dramatic irony. She artfully explores the yearning to stay true to your morals in the midst of dangerous and amoral conflicts and the consequences that come from responding to cruelty with kindness. We await book 4 with baited breath.

Enjoyable & Magical
Okay yes Diem makes some questionable decisions and choices throughout the series but the story overall is really, really great. The characters grow and adapt in a very positive way (apart from occasionally Diem). The magic is so much fun and the pacing flows smoothly. BUT the ending, how can Penn Cole leave us hanging like that?! This book truly leaves us on a cliffhanger and there is no news for the fourth book...ahhh! Still 100% worth every second listening to it.

great - just spoiled a tiny bit in the middle
i really got into this, then all of a sudden a man’s voice started to voice luther…it wasn’t anything like i imagined him and tbh spoiled the middle for me…then i had to spend the rest of the book pretending i hadn’t heard it. wasn’t too long though.
