Very entertaining

Well written, a little preposterous in parts but fiction is allowed to be, and well narrated for the most part.

Good easy listening, suspense thriller

Lucy Dawson's thrillers are usually about relationships and families rather than murders, always told from the woman's perspective. This is no exception.

In this book, our hero, Mia finds evidence that her significant other is having a relationship with somebody else. The suspense is about whether she will manage to get rid of her partner's other woman and keep him for herself. Mia starts doing things that partly make you think she might be a little deranged herself, and partly make you anxious to find out whether she will get away with it - not unlike a soap opera.

Towards the end, we get a few changes in direction, raising the tension somewhat as you would expect from a good thriller. At times though it did begin to border on a Whitehall farce. I liked the last couple of lines of the book. A good final twist.

Like Lucy Dawson's other books (White Lies, The Memory, The Daughter, Everything You Told Me), I found this held my attention right from the start and all through the book. It was easy to follow without too much concentration, not to many characters, but just enough to keep the listener's attention.

I wasn't conscious of any out-of-place mannerisms from the narrator, Georgia Maguire. On that basis I reckon she did a really good job. There are some awful edits in the sound though.

Desperate for a twist at the end…….

Like many people have said this book lacked a good ending which I was holding out for. Sadly that reflects back on the whole book making the overall story quite thin. The narrator was good but overall I was disappointed.

disappointing ending

I enjoyed this book all the way up to the very last line...and the ending was such a disappointment...it just went flat!
Great performance by Georgia Maguire, as always.

Laugh Out Loud Funny And Very Sad

This isn’t my usual type of book, I bought it in a 2 for 1 offer and I’m more crime and thrillers normally, but I really enjoyed it. It made me laugh out loud at times but I also felt the main character’s pain. I thought it well written and extremely well read, the narrator’s dead pan delivery was perfect for the funny parts. I particularly enjoyed the restaurant scenario, I’m sure it’s one most women will recognise!
