Try to negotiate or compromise instead of getting drawn into an argument. if the difficult person is passive aggressive: it's time to disengaged with them.

Disappointment
Very few realistic or relatable examples for me unfortunately, so I haven’t really been able to take much (if anything) away. Whilst I approached this book with enthusiasm and an open mind, some of the positions taken, and recommendations provided, by the author were deeply concerning. Rather awkwardly, considering that the author is professing to be an expert on this subject, I found it quite a ‘difficult’ and at times, toxic, read. I struggled to reach the end. The author seems to want you to bin a longtime friend or family member at the drop of a hat and brutally cut off communications, unless they are adequately feeding into and serving your own ego. That is in a nutshell how this author suggests ‘dealing with difficult people’. Just awful, really. We’re supposed to be encouraging speaking out if struggling with mental health which is likely to be a common underlying reason for any ‘negative’ thoughts or attitudes. Or how about someone is just generally going through a really tough time and is brave enough to share with you as a sort of cry for help or simply a shoulder to cry/rant on. Showing them resilience, kindness and love is surely what any decent person would do. There are lots of recommendations you can offer to help support them but also redistribute some of the weight also. These are challenging times. Please be kind! Difficult people to me are the likes of customer service agents nowadays (strangers), estate agents etc who we are forced to deal with on pretty much a daily basis and seem intent on causing trouble. On a plus, the narrator was easy to listen to. Eek.
