About this listen

“The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity." Xaden Riorson

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

Story 10, narration 10, listened in 2 days and it was brilliant. Delayed listening to the first until the second was out and did a marathon session over the week. Both incredible, both well worth the credits! definitely recommend

absolutely awesome could not stop listening

How am I supposed to wait for book 3. All those twists and turns, wow! I laughed, cried, sobbed, gasped in shock. I did not see any of that coming. Yarros is a phenomenal writer, I couldn’t put the book down.

Incredible

The story is good. Only issue I had was with the narrator. Every time some battle/fight occur she speeds up as if she is a sports narrator. I find it very annoying to listen to and difficult to catch everything since I often listen while doing other things.

Good book, slightly annoying narrator

I waited for an eternity (just a couple of weeks) and then finshed the book during a weekend. My god!
the chapters felt divided like a tv show. if i had more self control i would have listened to one chapter a day to make it last longer, but I did not. I was enthralled and the ending was maybe a bit easy to guess but nevertheless I loved the book, and the narrator did a great job. 👍

Absolutely amazing just what I expected. I do wish there was less couples arguing over non issues. Hearing the narrator swallowing was off putting but I really think she was brilliant. Looking forward to the next installment

Amazing

This book had me in tears, and I am not a cryer! Amazing plot, good pace, just the right amount of feels. Some people have been whinging about how the book is written, get over it we are here for the story. Can not wait for the next one, this has definitely made my shelf.

A fantastic story, riveting, and impossible to stop listening to. Beautifully read. You feel you are there, alongside Violence, willing her to not die today.

Wow. Just wow.
