About this listen
A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook
Across the warp storms of the Great Rift, a distress beacon calls for aid. The Rock is listening, for the Dark Angels have only their oaths to remind them of who they are.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
See what happens when the Dark Angels encounter a planet that might have even more secrets than they do! Can Master Lazarus cope with discovering what it really means to be defined by your oaths?
THE STORY
Supreme Grand Master Azrael summons Lazarus and his Fifth Company to honour an old debt on the Knight world of Reis – a planet upon which the warp has set its hungry gaze.
But Lazarus is not so sure Reis wants to be saved – its Knights are long lost, its governance is dogged by political strife, and internecine conflict hampers the world’s defence against an ancient evil. An evil which, like Lazarus himself, refuses to die.

A refreshing and surprising great book
I'd never listened to or read a book by this author before and was saddened that this DA book wasn't being written by one of the bigger authors used by GW but I'm glad I gave this book and author a chance and hope you do too. I pray to the emperor that this becomes a series surrounding this character who I've grown to admire though this book.

Brutal conflict for the 5th Company.
Entertaining, gritty and grim.
A tough day at the office for the 5th. Suffers due to release schedule as this is set before the Lion has returned.

A solid entry for Dark Angel fans
I hadn't read anything about Lazarus before this but since the range refresh I really wanted to try this and really enjoyed it. It gave me a much more rounded impression to the DA characters than previous books, especially the terrible Horus Heresy DA books! I like that the command squad had different personalities and strangely for Space Marines.. they actually seemed relatively human, showing compassion and respect (I'm sure they would exterminatus'd the planet in a heartbeat if necessary mind you!) which I thought was a great choice in the writing/ storytelling.
My only criticism was the main bad guy once he started explaining everything, he might have been twirling his moldey moustache while he did it! Otherwise I really enjoyed the book and I would very much like to see this made into a series with the command squad etc becoming recurring, more fleshed out characters. Fingers crossed!!

Good Story & Great Narration
Although this is set before the lions return it is a good story that makes space marines more just 'brother' and a great voice actor

Brotherhood
what an incredible book the master of the 5th baring his struggle and pain stand with him brothers and shows such humanity and understanding not to obnoxious to think a human could not possibly help. it's a must listen!

One of the best 40K books I’ve listened to
I am so glad I’d ignored the early reviews which were so negative.
The story is one of the more compelling narratives, aided by its relatively local scale to one planet and having nothing to do with the wider plot. It allowed for character focus and some good intrigue
The mortal characters were fleshed out, the marines more relatable then usual and the pacing more on point than I’m used to
Strongly recommend

Not a bad book but not needed
With the return of the lion there was no need for a book predating that event, it was read superbly by John Banks

Truly one of the worst 40K audio books.
As a massive Dark Angels fan I was super excited about this book. Unfortunately, the story is boring and predictable, but what makes it truly horrendous is the narrator who for some weird reason decided to add a truly cringe tone to everything every Space Marine said. They just sounded dum and really annoying.
It’s the first 40K audiobook in ages that I didn’t enjoy.
If you’re a big fan of the Dark Angels read the book, but AVOID this audiobook.

Just boring
Slow and no excitement.
Was so bored and let down by both story and a bore of a narrator.
