About this listen
The new fostering memoir from the Sunday Times bestselling author Casey Watson
Six-year-old Amelie lives with her mother, Kelly, who suffers from bipolar disorder. After Kelly attempts to burn down their family house, it becomes clear that her daughter is in grave danger. Amelie is quickly taken into care.
When she arrives with foster carer Casey Watson, Amelie acts much younger than her age. Casey must get to the root of Amelie’s behaviour, while doing what she can to keep the family together.
Will Amelie ever find the safety of home?

The pace of Kate Lock's reading
Again nice story from a fine couple. A little tip for those who have a conflict with the rhythm of reading: 1,2x speed makes it a nice average speed of storytelling.

narration threw me off
while there was no fault with the performance of the narrator, I found the voice of Amelie to be more akin to a cartoon character than a child in a serious book such as this. Not sure what went wrong here but it was both jarring and distracting to the story.

The narration is so stilted
I love Casey Watson's books, but Kate Lock does a real disservice to her works with her unnatural pauses and unusual emphasis on certain words. It makes it really hard to relax into listening, because it is just so strange with her pitch changes and pacing. It's really grating and painful to listen to. I have ADHD and find it hard to focus at the best of times, but the way this is narrated makes it harder to follow. I really can't describe it accurately.

Great story, really enjoyed it
I really enjoyed this book. The only downside for me is the narration. Silly voices for some of the characters. But it is really worth preserving with it!

yet again a sad, but positive listen
I work in children's services and love hearing g the side and experiences of the very dedicated, hard working foster carers. any child being nurtured by Casey and Mike are very lucky as are they knowing they have have made a huge difference to the children they care for.

Needs a different narrator
I have enjoyed reading Casey Watson books. I decided to get this one on audible. The story is good but what an awful narrator, totally wrong for the Casey Watson books. I suggest listening to the preview first. Sounds like I’m not the only one who agrees it’s bad. Definitely need to put the reading speed up. The narrator puts on ridiculous voices for the people in the book and sounds robotic which totally ruins it.

Sample before purchasing
I would suggest listening to a sample before purchasing this audiobook, for me it totally spoilt the story. I have read all of Casey Watson's books but this is only my second audiobook. The narrator would be great for children's books, under 7s, but totally inappropriate for a serious subject. I experienced cognitive dissonance throughout. There are no words. I want a refund.

awful narration
I usually love Casey's books but just couldn't stand the narrator... painful! I'll buy the actual book instead!
