LONGLISTED FOR THE CWA GOLD DAGGER AND IAN FLEMING STEEL DAGGER

'The UK's new spy master' Sunday Times

London Rules might not be written down, but everyone knows rule one.

Cover your arse.

Regent's Park's First Desk, Claude Whelan, is learning this the hard way. Tasked with protecting a beleaguered prime minister, he's facing attack from all directions himself: from the showboating MP who orchestrated the Brexit vote, and now has his sights set on Number Ten; from the showboat's wife, a tabloid columnist, who's crucifying Whelan in print; and especially from his own deputy, Lady Di Taverner, who's alert for Claude's every stumble.

Meanwhile, the country's being rocked by an apparently random string of terror attacks, and someone's trying to kill Roddy Ho.

Over at Slough House, the crew are struggling with personal problems: repressed grief, various addictions, retail paralysis, and the nagging suspicion that their newest colleague is a psychopath. But collectively, they're about to rediscover their greatest strength - that of making a bad situation much, much worse.

It's a good job Jackson Lamb knows the rules. Because those things aren't going to break themselves.

Brilliant!

Mick Herron and Sean Barrett, one of the best audio books in my library. Can't wait for the next in the series.

The reading together with the language is a joy

Sean Barrett has a very deep voice which growls perfectly and yet lightens to represent younger or more feminine voices. Mick Herrons language rolls along and conjures up landscapes and personalities in detail but the dialogue, especially that of Lamb is dry humour at its grungiest. I laughed out loud more than once.

Mick Herron

Utterly brilliant in every respect and I just hope that the series continues. London Rules is the best yet. Impeccable.

perfect

Wonderfully performed ( listen to JG Ballard's short stories for more Sean Barratt at his best) and beautifully written. At last a bunch of spooks who are as flawed and fallible as the rest of us, a perfect blend of intrigue, morality, cynicism and dark humour.
So refreshing to listen to a character driven stories and probably the best female characters written by a man I've had the pleasure of coming across.

Excellent as usual

Another great book from Mick Herron. Their styles are different, but Herron is like Elmore Leonard in his ability to make unpleasant characters engaging. Sean Barrett provides (another) excellent narration

Outstandibg

Jackson Land at his most offensive, brilliant performance of classic material - the best so far!

LONDON RULES

This is one of Nick Herron's best books, which has been superbly narrated. I hope there is more to come.
