Summary
On the world of Colchis, mighty religions rule a decaying society in the name of absent gods - until the arrival of Lorgar. Primarch, prophet, leader of destiny, the Golden One is raised by Kor Phaeron, priest of the Covenant, to be his weapon in a quest for power.
As religious war spreads across the planet, spearheaded by the Brotherhood of Lorgar, the primarch is plagued by visions of the future and the coming of the Emperor. To find his place in this new order, he must reach balance between the teachings of his adopted father, Kor Phaeron, and the fate that he knows awaits him among the stars.

Not for the Bolter Fans
Brilliant lore book, not much in the way of 30k or 40k but there is a lot of lore surrounding the bearer of the word

One of the best for backstory and upbringing
A great insight into the upbringing and relationship between Kor Phaeron and Lorgar, up there with Perturabo for backstory.

Great story, sheds light on Lorgar's past
Great story and writing, this is what the Primarch series should be, stories on the past of the primarchs before the Great Crusade. My only complaint is that it could have been somewhat longer, it would have been great if the arrival of the Emperor would have been covered as well. Oh, and Khor Pharon is a very bad human being. :)

Loved it but hate Kor Phaeron even more.
I'm going through the Primarch books and the Lion one is the best so far. Then Perturabo. I liked this one for it's mad max fury road style world building but absolutely hated that Lorgar willing took beatings from Kor when he could have ripped him apart even as a child. Still good insight into word bearers origins.

Like a good 'making of' documentary
Lorgar is definitely one of the more interesting of the Traitor Nine and has been blessed with some excellent writing in the course of the series. An erudite and scholarly man who in another lifetime would have remained a priest who ultimately engineers far more insanity than any of the other fallen Primarchs.
It helps a lot to have read about the events of Monarchia in 'The First Heretic' to place Lorgar in the context of this novella. That said, there are no real revelations in this book and nothing to advance the story of the Heresy
What you get then is a very good history of Lorgar's early life with Kor Phaeron and a good understanding of Colchis. As a character I find Lorgar fascinating and this book is ideal for me - atmospheric, slow-paced and full of detail, it really helps to understand the mind of Lorgar and determine if he was always going to fall to the Ruinous Powers or he had a choice. Not essential reading by any means but a most worthwhile one.

One of the best book in the series
Second only to Alpharius, this book is a fantastic listen and shows Lorgar in a different light to listen word bearer novels

a bit misleading
Keeble is excellent, as always. there are times when I choose a book because he is the narrator!
But for a book called "Lorgar, bearer of the word" there is surprisingly little Lorgar and a whole lot of Khor Phaeron.

A surprising, but welcome tale
this is bound to trigger some childhood traumas. otherwise an excellent piece explaining how Lorgar came to be Lorgar.
Prior familiarity with the setting, Lorga, and Word Bearers required.
