About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A delightful romantic adventure from one of the best-known and beloved historical novelists of all time.

Robin and Prudence Merriot have been dissemblers since they were children. And in this age of slippery politics, they need to be. So it is nothing for them to rescue a rich heiress from her abductor. But once committed to their masquerade, they must see it through....

For more than 50 years, Georgette Heyer was the undisputed queen of historical romance. And as these hugely successful reprints have shown, she still has a large devoted fan base.

A little gem. I really enjoyed and the narration was nicely done. I highly recommend.

Delightful

really enjoyable listen. some voices made slightly too young and in the beginning the he/she got me confused, but I've listen to it now few times and always enjoy it. one of those relaxing guilty pleasures when feeling under the weather and need something light and joyous and entertaining.

enjoyable

Performance was ok bar a couple of characters whose ‘voices’ just grated slightly. One made to sound inane.

Love this story

loved the romantic air. Appreciated these books since I was knee high to a grasshopper. my go to books when I need a pick me up

set in an earlier time

The pronunciations were inaccurate and irritating. But somehow my love of the story and it’s intricacies of evolvement kept me going. I just had to shake my head and pronounce the words accurately myself and forgive her stupidity. Grrrrr!
And yet hurrah hurrah for Heyer!!!

Genius Heyer … rubbish reader

This Heyer story was ultimately very enjoyable but due to its plot, which involved people dressing up and pretending to be members of the opposite sex, it took a bit of understanding at the start. So many names. Also the characters were not particularly appealing. The narrator was good and effortlessly dealt with the boy/ girl confusion. It was worth the trouble in the end.

A very complicated tale

The story is preposterous but fine. The narrator does voices well, but can pronounce neither french nor regency period terms. It gets a bit grating, especially when it changes the meaning of the phrase, ie she said drawing a bow (like bending at waist in token of respect) versus drawing a bow (like a bow and arrow) at a venture.

Fun story, adequate performance

Eleanor Yates did an excellent job, although one of the characters sounded like Margaret Thatcher

Really enjoyed

Love the story
Really enjoyed the audio- although, as one other reviewer commented, one of the characters voices does have more than a touch of the Maggie Thatcher about them!

An old favourite

Brilliant novel. Very poor narration. Sounds almost robotic. intonations do not reflect the meaning.
