Summary

In this terrifying novel from the phenomenally successful Anne Rice, the illustrious vampire Lestat makes a Faustian pact with devil.

Satan has come to New Orleans with an enticing proposition. Under the name Memnoch, this lord of darkness takes Lestat on a tour through the boundaries of space and time, offering an alternative and personalised account of the Bible, exploring the events which shaped our world.

Their journey comes to an apocalyptic conclusion in hell, from which Lestat returns frail and broken. The experience has shattered his perceptions of the known universe, but can you ever trust the devil?

Loved this book

As with all the books so far in this series I have loved listening to Simon Vance bring Anne Rice's words to life

Audible customer

Probably the best novel I’ve read in a while. Wonderful, thought provoking storyline which was so much more than I had anticipated given the themes of the vampire chronicles previous instalments. The narration was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed.

This one was hard work.

I stuck with it making sense at the end.
I want to complete all Vampire Chronicle books.

Just okay.. if that.

I love the characters. I love the vampire chronicles. Didn’t love this book. I read this years ago and remember struggling with it so thought I’d give the audiobook a go. I can probably only recall 3 events. The rest was needlessly detailed descriptions of angels etc. It probably didn’t need to be as long as it was!

Simon Vance did a fabulous job trying to bring it to life but I feel like you could miss this one out and still enjoy the chronicles.

Different but good

Different from the others and took a while to get into. All said, it turned into a really good read and look forward to listening to the next in the series

theological nightmare

I struggled to finish reading this book a few times and resorted to audiobook. I had to finish it in one form or other for the sake of the chronicles but it's absolutely nothing like the earlier books. the performance by Simon Vance was flawless in everything other than the accents used. some odd choices but that's only a minor issue. glad Ive finally finished it.

Exceptional narration marred by boring story

Although I liked the concept of Lestat being haunted by one of his victims, I found Anne Rice's theological reinterpretation exhaustive and, in honest, quite boring. This is a big step away from the theme of the series thus far, which I found unappealing and unnecessary.

Simon Vance's narration was pitch perfect.

Another Great Read from Anne Rice

Loved it! I had all of this series of books but never read them, gave them away instead now I wish I had kept them. I think this one is my favourite so far

Wasn't as good...

This just wasn't as good as the previous 4. I liked Roger and Dora, but then as soon as Memnoch revealed himself I sort of just zoned out. Everything that came out of his mouth was boring. I zoned back in for the end and that wasn't very spectacular either. Obviously I still love Lestat though!
