The Expanse at its best.

Turns out that the Expanse is even better in short story form. Character development, small scale stories and world building again and again. We get plenty of development for side characters, epilogues and prologues for them, and the main series is improved by reading this.

The Butcher of Andersson Station was just a name before, as was Auberon, and Eric was just a nobody. Cara and Xan came out of the left field, and Epstein was just yet another name. Now, they are all people, as important as Holden, Avasarala, Bobby, Marco or Winston Duarte.

So sad it’s over

Brilliant story and brilliant narration I’m just sad it’s over, worth getting memories legion for the authors notes in between

So glad this is finally available

An audible token holds such value and I never felt the value in spending it on each individual short story so I’m so very thankful to have been able to fill in the gaps I’ve been sorely missing out on and I’m pleased to say I have no regrets. Each story, and the author notes too, we’re thoroughly enjoyable :)

Great supporting stories

I was annoyed that I had bought some of these separately before the compilation was released but I really enjoyed them. I tried to read each one at the point where it fitted with the main novels’ timeframe.

I was a bit frustrated by the end of the final story - I wanted more and needed some answers! However, having loathed the end of the last Expanse novel, reading this last story afterwards made me feel a bit better about the ending of the series overall.

Highly recommended.

Excellent combined set of stories.

Varied and fleshes out the expanse universe even more, several of the books are actually story threads in the TV series - though don’t make it in to the main book series. As ever imagination and very different types of story, grounded characters in a great universe. Highly recommended.

Damn, I love this universe.

I feel very grateful to have this extra compendium. I hope it’s not the last from the Expanse. The author’s notes are a nice addition.

An outstanding selection of Novellas

I shall separate this review into each book that I read in the collection, with a mini review for each.

1. God's of Risk.
James Corey have done an amazing job in their novellas, to be able to create characters that we can care about in just a few hours hours is impressive.

It was interesting seeing Bobi viewed from the outside of the story seeing how she was dealing emotionally with the events of the previous book. Personally I found the novella more interesting than how it was told in season 2/3 of the expanse, a show that I absolutely love.

2. Drive
James S.A Corey are great a creating characters, for a short novella, it clocked in as 57 minutes in the audiobook. Characterisation is very important in all books and incredibly difficult to pull off, they are pull it off and I felt I was able to know what drove Solomon Epstein, our main character, and care for him and his plight/flight.

The story and the pacing for this was spot on. Another great story, enjoyable for any fan of the series. It is chronologicaly the first in the Expanse series but it was published later, I read it after 2 novels and 2 novellas but I can see it being enjoyed as the start or the series.

Personally I found the collection of short stories novellas to be a wonderful addition to the main overall Expanse World.

Excellent completion of the whole work.

Really enjoyed the author's notes giving extra insight into the ideas that motivated the writing.

This recording would benefit from being split into "chapters" as a normal novel would.

great, but don't start here

these are short stories which span the whole of the expanse Saga and then some. there great if you're a fan reading the other books or having just finished them, but it's not the right place to start. or maybe it is, if you like pricing things together retrospectively.

They're definitely worth a go if you enjoyed the other books, though, and the authors notes are very illuminating.
